Hot Air Intake???

Post by elrodvoss »

Greetings... Where does the air come in for the Climate control system? This is when you just have it on normal vent w/o the recerlate on. Its been like 70-80 degrees here, and I have been running with the vents on, but I seam to get warmer air. Warmer then the air is outside. So I am assuming that the air is comming through the car's air filter, and the engine is heating the air before it comes into the climate control. If this is true, could a cold air induction system fix this? As I assume it grabs the air from an area away from the radiator. Thanks

Quote, originally posted by GM Service Manual »The blower fan draws outside air from the plenum at the base of the windshield into the heater case. The forward movement of the vehicle forces additional outside air into the heater case.Quote, originally posted by GM Service Manual »The body ventilation system provides the passenger compartment with fresh, outside air. Air is drawn into the interior of the vehicle from the intake grille within the cowl panel and drawn out through the ventilator outlets in the body rear panels. In other words, a CAI will do nothing for the temperature of the cabin air. Check to be sure that your temperature dial is full in the cold position. If so, have the dealer check the air temperature adjustment cable. On my cars it was "misadjusted," resulting in poor performance from the A/C and vent systems, and there is a service bulletin to repair it (an extremely quick repair, many can do it themselves). Also be sure your recirculate button is not on.

It seems that in all cars that I've been in, even when you put the vent on cold without A/C, it is still warmer than outside. It would be nice if it was the same. In your second quote, they say the air is drawn from the intake grille within the cowl panel. What is the cowl panel? Is that the "plenum at the base of the windshield" as mentioned in the first quote? Just curious. Later,

So I did some research.According to the dictionary, the cowl is: Quote »The top portion of the front part of an automobile body, supporting the windshield and dashboard. Further research concludes that the cowl, is in fact, the vents at the base of the windshield.
