Dodge Durango HEMI!

Post by snowman »

WOW, my gf just let my drive the 04 Durango (HEMI) she brought home from work. Stomp on the pedal and go (if you don't have to pay the gas bill). What an improvement over the old style-way more room inside, nice sound on the stereo, and again POWERFUL! She was following in the Vibe and I just stepped on it and she was fading fast in the mirror....

It's a HEMI, that's what! The HEMI is known for being a powerhouse. It's roots are in racing, and it's return has been long awaited! And the new ones are definitely nothing to snub you're nose at! Torque Beasts! I believe it's 335 HP and 375 ft.lb/tq! And it's Dodge, which only means there will be bigger, badder HEMI's on the way!more info on the history of the HEMI here: http://www.allpar.com/mopar/hemi/hemi.html I, personally, am not a fan of the styling on the new Durango. I liked the old much better. My parents had two of them. Loved driving them! They didn't seem near as big as the Yukon I drove and handled much better! That thing could plow through mad snow banks! Never once got stuck, and I'm talking snow banks as high as the door handles!

The 2zz creates 100hp for every liter, the Hemi about 60.5....I'm not impressed, IMO.Put some technology on it!

Quote, originally posted by desert_dweller »What make a HEMI any different than any other V-8.I'm no expert on Hemi's, but from what I understand, it's short for Hemispherical, as in the shape of the combustion chamber in the head, with the spark plug located relatively at the center, or top of the chamber. I'd consider our Vibe's head a hemispherical chamber.Back in the late 60's and early 70's, Chrysler put their hot "Hemi's" in some "Cuda's"....a very very prized collectible muscle car now.In comparison, a small block Chevy head typically has a "squish" to one side, and a larger area where the valves and spark plug are in the head.
