How do you attach a license plate bracket to the front of a Vibe?

Post by lashajayne »

I purchased a front license plate bracket for my 04 Vibe (base edition), but it did not come with instructions and I see no place to screw it in. How do I attach it? Do I have to put holes in the front bumper?!!? Hope not!! Thanks in advance. -- I'm seeing how long it can go without the front license before the cops catch me.... Laura

I'm not sure if it will attach the same way as the one that comes with the Vibe but if you look really close you should see two little depressions in the paint on the front fascia. The holes are already there but painted over. Did you buy new or used?If new you should be able to go back to the dealer and demand the front bracket that came with the car.Mine was in the hatch under the floor in a baggy. Which is where it stays because luckily you only have to have one plate in AZ.Good Luck.

The two indents in the front bumper actually need to be drilled out, they just mark were the holes. At least the ones that come in to the dealership I work at are like that. When getting the PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) done they are drilled out and then the bracket is screwed in.

I've held out on mine for almost 1.5 years. I'm gonna put mine on my passenger visor so it can be flipped down and visible. I'm pretty sure this will make me legal. You might find out if that would workin your state. I wasn't about to put wholes in the front of that nice smooth front end!

Thanks! I like the visor idea... don't want to damage poor baby, especially since I'm moving to Michigan in a year where they DON'T require that.

The instructions call for 2-3mm holes and 2-18mm holes to be drilled. Drilling an 18mm hole in the front sure sounds big to me. Anyone install the bracket without the big holes?

You definitely don't need the big holes for the stock frame, just the two little ones!I went without the front plate for months, but eventually chickened out when I heard the police were targeting such deficiencies, but I didn't like the look of the stock location, so I mounted it as per attached:

It is indeed, Mike! That's my pal George's 1969 1300 Spider Jr., which he bought as a total rust-bucket in the early 90s and rebuilt over a period of several years. It's a show winner now! PS: Congrats on getting the spelling right. 90% of enthusiasts spell it Alpha.
