It has been great to come back to the forum and see how it has grown since it started two years ago. The user count keeps on climing and is headed towards 2000! Yet, we seem to be attracting a lot of members who are not tolerant of others opinions, and cannot present their own opinion in a way that doesn't sound like an attack, or come off as condescending. Are some of our members just that immature that they cannot accept some diversity of opinion, and be able to make their argument in a way that doesn't just flame someone?Ok, I guess it is a minority of people in a small amount of threads, but it sure is annoying. The majority of people here are cool, and make it a fun forum to be a part of!
Before you point the finger, just note that some of the things that you have said have come from the established veterans of this humble little website and that is the reason why I haven't posted/been around as much myself.

Here's my MATURE view...there's gonna be a-holes everywhere you go in life...sometimes you might find your own self being that a-hole, other times it might be someone else...Unfortunately there are such things as growing pains. With the good you're gonna have the bad. I tend to ignore such posts and simply read what appeals to me. Some posts, I express my opinion on, but always make sure to let them know that it's only my OPINION...That said, my opinion is this thread is just as immature as some others I've read. Why? Because I feel that it's kinda whiney. But at least you expressed your opinion. And I accepted it as that.
the site shouldn't be a place where you need to run all posts through a lawyer and a sensitivity counselor to ensure that no one could possibly be offended. sometimes people need to lighten up a little and not take stuff here too seriously. It should also be a place where anyone can post without fear of being abused. It is a tough compromise. there are all kinds of vibe owners here, a diverse gathering of people, and there are bound to be clashes. What might offend one person is just normal banter among friends for another.if I've pissed off anybody, I didn't mean to. Sometimes my attempts at humor go horribly, horribly wrong, so if I'm guilty please let me know. If you have a problem with an individual, then try to work it out with them, at least to call a ceasefire. If that doesn't work or doesn't feel appropriate, ask a moderator for help, or maybe an admin. They want everyone to be welcome here, that's my opinion anyway. As valid as any other member's. more valid than a lurker's though, because they never signed up.
excellent post, joatman! well said. yes, after being here for almost a year now, i've seen both new and old members flame others. i have problems w/ other's views or beliefs at all, but sometimes am offended in the way of their presentation. i think we do our best to keep things cool and to still allow individuality. unless it's outright flaming, then i see no probs here. most issues have been resolved off the open forums, or atleast try to be. there will always be the obnoxious few, but usually find those ones are the most vocal! lol
try to find a forum w/out dingalings! seriously, people hate this mentality, but, if you don't like it, ya don't have to read it.how stupid would someone sound at the grocery store, standing in line thumbing through a magazine, complaining about the articles and how they shouldn't be printed??

Quote »Rant: Do any mature people own Vibes?Your thread title is a nice, immature sterotype IMHO. Then again, I;m just playing devil's advocate and are not at all offended by it.
I've seen people complaining about magizine ads before. My g/f for one! I love this site...personally I think the "a-holes" ad flavor to the variety of people on here . I also do not take anything anyone says personally
I have a tough time with some of the content and so I find I don't read or post unless I have specific questions on my mind and I'm looking for answers. (Not that I only ask questions - I feel that if I'm asking I owe it to the community to participate in other threads just to give back, but that's just me.) One of the benefits to having the moderators we do is that early on they established a good organizational structure to topics that categorized threads in a may that makes it easy to ignore things that you're not interested in or entertained by. For example, I invariably steer clear of "Humour" posts(which I found not funny at all) and ignore a good portion of the "Off Topic" area. But that's the beauty - to each their own.
I am in my mid-forties but would hate to think of myself or any of my close friends as mature. Heaven forbid. We like to think of ourselves as immature males and are darn proud of it. In fact we have contemplated starting our own magazine called "Immature Male". By the sheer spunkiness and youthfullness of the Pontiac Vibe a large number of "immature" people are bound to buy one and thereby come to be Genvibe members. I can be a total jerk as well as the next guy. I find a good mix of personallity types and styles on Genvibe. That is what makes life interesting. Any time people can interact with total anonimity they are bound to be a little bolder and outspoken than they would talking face to face. That's my 1.3 cents Can. worth.
I see it as this, everywhere you go, there will be someone doing something you don't like or find offensive, I have had a few encounters here myself in such regards and consider myself the better man to just walk away and leave it be.I joined this forum of my own free will and do not see it as my personal business to request topic areas be changed or deleted/removed due to my opinions. If say for some reason I find the Off Topic forum to be outside my tastes, I'd stay out of it and let others enjoy it as they see fit. Same with their opinions, heck its like skin, we all have one. And just as ugly as racism, we need to accept other people's opinions and not be harsh about it.I may have a huge post count, though small compared to others but I don't feel that means I am an old member. I feel everyone deserves the same treatment if they have been here one day or 2 years. Understanding and respect.

I believe Penny Aracde has described the issue faced here. (Contains language, but is worksafe)http://www.penny-arcade.com/vi...03-19Give any idiot complete anonymity and an audience, and it all goes downhill from there. The worst you can do is egg it on and let them believe they have an audience. I believe there are plenty of mature people that own Vibes, but the internet and a forum tend to destroy that "maturity"

Quote, originally posted by Mavrik »I feel everyone deserves the same treatment if they have been here one day or 2 years. Understanding and respect. And this is the exact mentality that we try to foster here on the site. Well put, Mavrik.I sometimes see posts similar in content to the one that started off this thread. And then we always go through the same arguement, and get pretty much the same result. This site is a compilation of what we the members make of it. So depending on what people choose to post here, we can show some of the best of humanity, and conversely, we can show some of the worst of humanity. Fortunately, I see the balance of the two tilted very much in favor for the best in people on here. Sometimes some ugliness crops up, but it usually goes away fairly quickly. The only real problems I have in this regard involve one of two conditions. The first is when somebody is violating the rules of this site. We have guidelines and procedures that are in place to deal with that. The second is when someone starts a thread with the sole intention of starting a conflict. There really is no purpose for that other than to start trouble. Free speech is a great thing and an achievement that has been attained by very few societies in the world. The downside of it is that one must endure opinions and commentary that may be diametrically opposed to one's own views and feelings. That is the price that is paid to ensure free speech. I will happily pay that price because I still retain the right to act as my own censor. If I find something offensive on this site, but it does not violate any of the rules, then I just have to live with it. I can always choose to ignore it and not respond. I do not come in here with the attitude that I have the right to not be offended. Nobody in this country can truthfully claim that right because it would violate the rights of everyone who disagreed with even the smallest part of any given issue. I get deeply offended and even hurt on here sometimes, but I just have to deal with it. I try not to take those things so seriously and let it go.I have no problem with intellectual discussion on controversial issues. In fact, I encourage it, advocate it, and frequently partake in it. It is a fundamental part of true knowledge. If people can act maturely when discussing such things, the educational value of it is immeasurable. This is a community no matter how we look at it and sometimes conflicts will arise. It is how we conduct ourselves when faced with these conflicts that reveals our true character. I was taught from a young age that if a particular person repeatedly causes conflict for me, avoid them at all costs. You'll lead a much more peaceful life if you do. I've found myself in the middle of many controversial issues on here and I have no regrets having been involved in any of them. I have looked at every one of them as a learning experience. If someone just keeps repeatedly arguing with me just for the sake of arguing, I just quit posting there. It's pretty hard for a person to argue with just themself.I know I had to learn to just let things go sometimes. If you see something that you disagree with, sometimes you just have to roll your eyes, say to yourself "whatever", and just move on to something else. If someone poses a conflict to me in an intellectual way that I feel is actually aimed at learning something, then I will respond even when my response opposes theirs. If it is just petty bickering, then I have better things on here and otherwise to devote my time to. I don't know how much more mature than that it gets. There are a lot of great people here. I like to get to know them and interact more closely with them. I won't let the few people who just want to argue with me ruin my experience here. And once again, if anyone here feels that someone is breaking the rules or is personally violated by something that is going on here, I urge them to IMMEDIATELY take it up with a moderator or an administrator so that the situation can be looked at and dealt with properly. The moderators and administrators here are genuinely interested in making this site a good experience for everyone and can handle situations arising from this site in a professional way. Also, if you see a way that the site could be improved, the administrators are very open about this and encourage you to notify them. They have even devoted an entire forum just for that purpose. It is not just a mechanism to make people feel good either, I have seen real changes come about to this site as a direct result of member's suggestions. Use the resources here that are available to you, don't just sit there complaining about things or worse yet, leave the site. You have to empower yourself, others will not do that for you.

I just want to add that some of us sometimes have problems using the correct wording or terminology to get what we want to say into what we type.(like what I just attempted to say there)I am more of a reader than a poster anymore, but I just want to say,to each his own.....don't like it,turn the pagewell said stang
I think that Genvibe.com is the best behaved car forum that I visit at....There are about 4 of them that I post at , and they are all with cars that has the 1zz motor in it. I visit and post here the most....yep... we're the most mature here.....yep....at least I think so...at least I should say "the nicest"

Faultline: I have to agree, I was on XMFan.com for a long time before GenVibe...and XMFan has become nothing more than a drugged up, punk filled playground... Nobody gets any real intelligent discussions going! I think Mike can attest to that.Sure...there're days when it goes stupid around here...but the large majority is still very mature. Especially for a public forum.. (See my previous post above)

I'm with faultline here. This is one of the tamer boards around. I get more annoyed by people that give bad info or do zero research than the minor flaming and this board is pretty good on all counts.

I think I agree with the general consensus here. I also think that having a few a** holes on here is not a bad thing. A little controversy helps to keep life interesting, in other words not boring. I don't feel that there are too many negative people to make this site discouraging to visit. I don't know what else to say except that genvibe is awesmoe and I love it!
