Quote »Ford Recalls 322,000 Escape SUVs for Engine StallTue Apr 13,12:07 PM ET DETROIT (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co. is recalling about 322,000 of its compact Escape sport utility vehicles to fix what the automaker described on Tuesday as an intermittent engine stalling problem. Vehicles affected by the recall are from the 2001, 2002 and early 2003 model years and equipped with 3.0 liter V-6 engines, Ford Motor said. The second-largest U.S. automaker said the stalling problem tends to occur during vehicle deceleration at speeds below 40 miles per hour. Ford said it had received reports of eight alleged minor accidents stemming from the problem, three of which included allegations of minor injuries. Despite the reports, Ford said engine stall on the Escapes posed "no unreasonable risk of accident or injury."
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
That's why I stayed away from seriously considering one, even though my wife and son thought they were da bomb. I think it was Edmunds.com where there were dozens of user reviews, and many mentioned the stalling problem.
My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.
... and the recall parade for Ford continues. The poor Escape and Focus were so close to being really good cars, but they had so many flaws that didn't get addressed before they hit market. Ford really needs to spend a little more time developing their vehicles. Hopefully the new Mustang isn't plagued by problems too!
That would have been my car. We had is shipped up from Florida and everything...on the way up, something screwed up in the axle and they had it repaired bt my mom didn't want me driving a damaged car so here I am with my Vibe...good thing too.
And yet again today:Quote »Mazda, GM Recall Sport Utility Vehicles1 hour, 22 minutes ago WASHINGTON - Mazda is recalling 106,000 Tribute sport utility vehicles because they can stall without warning, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Thursday. Separately, General Motors announced a recall because of seat belt defects that could affect up to 1.8 million SUVs. Involved in the Mazda recall are Tributes from the 2001-2003 model years with 3-liter, V6 engines. In a letter sent to NHTSA in May 2002, Mazda said the engine stalling didn't present "an unreasonable risk to motor safety." At that time, Mazda said it had received 2,087 reports of stalling and that accidents resulted in three cases. The Tribute is similar to the Ford Escape, which was recalled earlier this week for the same defect. Ford said engine stalling in the Escape had caused eight minor accidents. Mazda dealers will reprogram the Tribute for free as part of the recall. Also Thursday, General Motors Corp. said it will recall some of its 2001 and 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy and Oldsmobile Bravada SUVs because their seat belts don't meet federal safety standards. GM spokesman Jim Schell said the company is still determining which of its SUVs need to have their seat belts replaced, but the recall could affect up to 1.8 million vehicles. GM said the seat belt defect wouldn't affect safety, but NHTSA disagreed. Mazda is owned by Ford. Coincidence? I think not.

Both vehicles actually run off of a Mazda chasis, but unfortunately for both have Ford drivetrains. Ford should just recall all their Escapes and give people a Toyota Rav4 instead.
