Anyone seen the new Saturn comm. where the couple get's the Ion, plus the stork brings them a baby? They end up exchanging it for a Vue. So Saturn has a new deal where you can exchange any new vehicle for another within 30 days. Is it me or do they just come up with better deals than the competition? I am seriously considering Saturn next time I purchase a vehicle.
The 30 day exchange has been around for a while...at least a year or more...But there are a lot of limitations on mileage and stuff...it's not as cut and dry as it seems...

In less than 10 years there will be no more plastic body panels on Saturn. The Saturn Relay doesn't have them. GM is giving up on it. Very stupid if you ask me.
Out of curiosity, I contacted Saturn to ask about the T&C of the 30-day exchange. Here's what they said:Quote »Saturn offers what we call the "Owner Promise" program. Within thefirst 30 days or 1,500 miles from the in service date, whichever comesfirst, the original purchaser may exchange his Saturn vehicle (for anyreason) for another Saturn vehicle if not completely satisfied. The vehicle cannot be returned due to a change in factory incentives. If acustomer exchanges their vehicle for a new one, the incentives available atthe time of the original purchase will apply to the new vehicle. Thevehicle must be returned in the condition in which it was delivered, withoutdamage or excessive wear and tear. Any vehicle returned will be inspectedfor damage and excessive wear and tear. If non-warranty repairs equal to orgreater than $300 have been performed or are necessary, the vehicle is noteligible to be returned. If less than $300, the damage repair estimate willbe deducted form the refund/credit. The vehicle must not have anyaftermarket accessories installed unless they were performed by a Saturnretailer. Demostrator vehicles are ineligible for exchange. The customer isresponsible for any price increases. Credit will be given towards the newvehicle if the price has decreased. You must return your Saturn to the Retailer you purchased or leased it from. You must have all your transaction documents, including the sales/leasecontract, license, and registration. Only one vehicle can be returned permodel year per customer.

Those restrictions aren't too bad. The majority of drivers won't eat up 1500 miles in a month. That sounds very generous. They probably go over the car with a fine toothed comb, but as long as you haven't bounced it off any gaurd rails it should be in perfect shape! With the plastic, at least they won't find door dings to deny the return! On the plastic panels... it is a shame they are going away! I have an 88 Fiero, the original plastic GM car, and those panels hold up great! Not only is the car dent free after 100K+ miles and 16 years, the finish on it has held up very well too. Clear coat is near perfect and it is still a bright red. It would be hard to find a similar year Grand Am that hasn't long sinse fade and shed its clear coat. Its also easy to replace the panels if you have an accident. The downside is they don't let you have small tight panel gaps because they expand a lot when its warm out, so the panels do not look as tight fitting as say a Toyota product. Saturn was unique, but now that they are putting corporate platforms under all the cars its just another division of GM... and a rather weak one at that.
ya saw the new saturn commercial on tv tonight several times.... i must say it was great! had me in stitches! not to mention a fantastic marketing ploy!

Any plastic bodied vehicle has a full steel rolling chasis underneath. The panels are jost bolted ontop of the rolling chasis, but they bear no weight from the chasis, and have all collision protection equipment is beneath them. There is nothing that makes a plastic bodied saturn any less safe or structurally sound than a steal counterpart. There would be nothing wrong with a plastic bodied SUV.Unfortunately, it will be more than one vehicle in the future. GM has announced they will be moving farther away from the plastic bodied vehiclec in the future. They will give Saturn more brand engineered cars, trucks and minivans. It is conceivable the Tenessee plant will continue to make plastic bodied cars, but they will no longer be the majority of Saturn products in the near future. Saturn is essentially already dead anyway. They still have the plastic, but all their cars are now off corporate platforms with corporate engines. The Ion is a delta car with an Ecotec motor. The Vue now shares its platform Chevy Equnox, and uses Honda engines of all things (the Vue that is, Equnox uses a China sourced version of the 60 degree 3.45 pushrod). The L series is platform engineered, and is dead after this year anyway and their upcoming sports car will be a version of the Kappa platform Solstice. Except for plastic, and the no-dicker sticker, there is nothing very unique at a Saturn dealer anymore.
