Hitch Wiring?

Post by OutLaW »

Does anyone know if they make a wiring system yo ucan plug into the Vibe for trailors? I'd like to get a hitch, but I don't want to cut into the wiring to run the lights. Anyone know of this?

I don't think there's one that just "plugs in", even if you got an interface, you'd still need to wire it to the rear lights.

What I'm lookin for is a T type plug that goes into the rear wiring harness where it can be disconnected. So I wouldn't have to mess with the wires that are there..

Sure, they're called T-Taps (I think that's the official name). You can get them at auto-parts stores. The blue ones will work. You basically place one side on the wire, fold over the other side and clamp it down. Then you get a crimp-on spade connector for the wire you want to tap onto the first, and it connects. I think they're sold in packs of both connectors. You can ask for 'em, and they'll know what you're talking about. There was another thread saying that someone's trailer had blown their parking light fuse, so I'd be careful about just tapping into the lights themselves. You might want to set up a seperate relay if your trailer has parking lights.

No, that's not what I'm talkin about. That's exactly what I don't wanna do. What I'm hoping for is that, right where the main wiring harness for the car goes back to the rear, and the brake, taillight, and reverse lights wiring harness meet, there is a plug. Now on my pickup truck, they made a connecter that you just unplug that harness in between those. So there's no cutting. All you would do is disconnect and plug into the T harness. They prolly don't make those yet. Just checking and hoping they did.

Considering the Vibe isn't really a "towing" car...dunno if they do, or would consider making such a connector...Look for the phone numbers for some of the trailer accessory builders and call 'em direct is the best I could suggest..
