After buying and installing a K & N Air Filter this weekend. I noticed immediately the change in engine performance. Now I would like to give the CAI a shot. How much of a difference does it make. I was looking at the Typhoon for about $230.00.
I bought my Injen CAI from Adventon.com for $197.24 for blue, red or black and a Vibe GT (listed as Matrix XRS). They offer the polished one for $191.26 for the GT. For the base, the price is $191.26 for the colors and $185.29 for polished. Here is a link to the page: http://www.adventon.com/acb/showprod.cf ... up_ID=1956 They also have AEM intakes on the same page. Hope this helps. Also, I love my Injen CAI! Great mod!

By the dynos, there say there is a 12.1 hp increase at the wheels and 7.4 lbs. of torque for the GT/XRS. For the base/XR it is a 8.1 hp gain and 5.1 lbs. of torque. I really feel the torque increase in my GT. It gives me more torque at lower RPMs. The sound is incredible as well.

It takes about an hour and a half. You can do it yourself especially with some of the posts about CAI installs on here. There are some listed with pics. I would also have someone help you. It makes filter installation a lot easier. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1281

What kind of diferences did you notice? Do you acutally notice a difference in your car's accereleration? I was thinking of getting a K&N air filter but I thought spending ~$40 on an air filter might not be a good idea if I plan to get a CAI later on down the road.Jim

I recommend injen.I bought my injen from ptuning.com...cost me about $255 with no charge for shipping.Took me about 2 hours to install, because I was doing it alone. Found it, more or less, very easy! And if I can do it, TRUST ME, you can do it...I notice a much meaner noise from the car, it screams "don't mess with me, i got power." And it really seems to get great pickup to.Plus, it's a great conversation piece at vibe meets or other gatherings...
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
If I remember right, the shipping on the intake from Adventon is around $10 to $15, still putting the price well below PTuning. I bought the Injen intake and matching oil cap for around $250 shipped.

i went with ptuning for a bit more because if i have warranty issues, i can go straight to injen.when buying from adventon, you have to go to thm for warranty issues, which may prove to be more difficult...plus, the guy was really nice there, gave me a discount, special ordered for me...worth the few extra bucks...

The big plus with it is that it quiets the engine when you rev it a little. Over all it's great but if you are going CAI then wait
does it really REALLY improve that dead spot that appears on the awd around 3,000 to 4,000 rpms, not only in feel but actually goooooo? i'm glad you bought one, cause i've been wishin' but no one put one on a awd yet here! is it the short or long version? whats the hardest part of the installation?
quote:Is there any reason that the Injen CAI wouldn't be compatable with the forth coming SC from Pontiac? The only reason it shouldn't is if the S/C moves the location of the throttlebody inlet.

Hi guys, I'm new here. well I've tried to read all the threads... I'd like a short ram intake but apperantly no one has posted if there is an actual fuel economy... anyone know?
lol... cool. thx but what I'd really like to know is numbers ( don't need to be precise). Can anyone do me a favor and check their milage in "normal" driving conditions? I was able to get 40mpg once LoL (don't know how though except that I was driving 60mph)
Been lurking here for a while. My Vibe gets lots of use... 400 miles/wk and been thinking about a CAI. But looking at the routing of the CAI air inlet it seems the routing is the same as the stock airbox supply. It is no more "cold" than stock. Any performance improvements must be from more air getting into the system. One other thing when it is time to replace the filter ... what 100K miles who supplies them?

[QUOTE]Actually the inlet tube of the CAI is more heat resistant than the plastic stock air box keeping the air cooler as in enters the intake manifold. Also the inlet tube goes farther down than the stock box it ends by the fog light. the rube is also bigger than stock allowing more air. Less heat, more air= more power. Trust me you will notice a big improvement with a cold air intake.

glad you decided to join us! well, the air filters only need cleaning about 50K miles. i have cleaned mine at 15K miles because of location, gets extremely nasty and dusty so needs more cleaning than perhaps other places. you don't throw the filter away. you just get a cleaning kit and clean it. should last about 1 million miles!

I installed a COSMO CAI over a year ago and it was BLUE , COST AROUND $120.00 including shipping . I had to shorten it by 2 inches to get it to fit . Itwas well worth the $$ in performance .
No offense, but that's a bit ghetto-rigged. Not sure you're getting a gain at all with that. Those metal mesh filters aren't that good either....you're either sucking in too much debris or not enough air. Better off investing the $150 for a nice CAI or Short-Ram IMO. But to each their own.

^wow is this a joke.......man I was just about to say go with a cosmo racing if your concerned about money. I bought a TRD CAI for $209 off ebay and been happy ever since.
I really feel bad if we did, cause I don't think we meant to, I didn't.I think for mock up purposes he did a good job... but I can see why he might be getting the CEL codes, there are just too many sensors on these cars.
And I was being nice... Taking his age into account I can understand why he did what he did. a 2dollor PVC pipe from any plumbing supply store is a cheap and easy route to take when your lacking funds. However, the trade off is that he most likely ruined his MAF sensor. So instead of saving up a hundred bucks he tried something. I give him props for trying it but, you MUST think things threw first and be prepared to suffer the consequences that come from your "shade tree mechanic" know how. This is one lesson I am sure he learned well because last time I checked a MAF sensor for our cars is 70bucks for a base and 119 for a GT.http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/catalog/frameset.cfm

i figured there was no difference in a homemade one then a bought one but i guess im wrong i dunno too much about cars so. im def taking the ghetto rig off and thinking about buying the member CAI
Ya, there's a difference. When you buy one you know that it's been tested and made specifically for your vehicle. You probably had leaks, probably not much power gain at all, and maybe even damanged your MAF. Make sure your battery is disconnected before messing with that sensor.
