New Magnaflow Design (?)

Post by frostyGT »

I received my Magnaflow cat-back on Friday and installed it this afternoon. Haven't taken it out of the driveway yet, so no comments on performance. The kit that I received is a little different from the others I've seen pictured here. Mainly, mine has a seperate tip that you need to attach. I see this as an improvement, because it will be easier if I ever have a need to replace the tip. However, the included tip is very nice. Also, my tip has no etching/engraving on it. The others I've seen have all said Magnaflow on them. Mine is perfectly smooth. Again, I see this as more to my taste. For those who are curious, I ordered this from FullLineExhaust for $295 shipped. You have to call them to get that price due to minimum advertised pricing policies.Check out these pics to see the differences.

This is my personal opinion here, but I have the MagnaFlow exhaust and I don't like how the tip is seperate on yours. Mine is tig welded right on the exhaust system. I figure this, it has a lifetime warranty so I shouldn't have anything to worry about if anything ever happens to any part of it. Also, I personally like the MagnaFlow etching on the tip. I'm glad you like what you received and it is more suited to your tastes, but if it was me, I would be a little discouraged at the outcome.

It's not a fraud. I called Magnaflow already to talk to them. Here is a scan of the instructions. Before anyone asks, the tech rep said that they often included instructions for a similar model when the instructions were almost identical. The box did say "15758", and I know it is for my GT because it is installed and working perfectly now.I don't see why clamping the tip on is a concern. It's not like I'm concerned about an exhaust leak at the tip. I'd be more concerned about the clamp up front.I guess the main question I have now is whether I got a new design or an old design. I think I'll call them again today and ask.

Update

Post by frostyGT »

Well, I just got off the phone with Magnaflow. They informed me that there was a design change, and that all of the newer systems have the tip welded on. The product has only been out a few months, and my system has a manufacturing date of 10/03. So, it's not like I got a year-old system. However, I'm not really sure how I feel about the whole thing. On the one hand, the clamp-on tip is not a big deal to me and my neighbor has a tig welder if I decide I need to weld it on. On the other hand, I am a little disappointed that I did not get the "latest" version. Magnaflow did confirm, though, that the only difference in the two kits is the tip and that all of the other parts are identical.Anyway...I bought the system from http://fulllineexhaust.com/. So, if you are worried about getting the older model, don't buy from them.

Another update

Post by frostyGT »

Well...I contacted Full Line Exhaust and they were very friendly. They offered to exchange at no charge, they would even cover the shipping. However, since I already installed it, this wasn't an option for me anymore. So...they are giving me $50 back. Not a bad deal, especially since the differences don't bother me at all. Total for the exhaust will be $245 shipped. They received this system in their inventory in December, so I'm sure there are a few of these floating around. If you are really set on the newer design, make sure you specify when ordering.

Interesting! I JUST ordered the Magnaflow exhaust from ptuning for $341 shipped! What a rip! You got it for $295...oh well. I live in VA so the 5% discount is cancelled by the 4.5% sales tax. Of course the good thing is that I ordered it last night & it should be delivered tomorrow! I also noticed that ptuning has a 110% price difference guarantee so I'll let them know that this fulllineexhaust place has it for less. Now I'm curious to see if I have seperate tip....I'd rather have it welded.Well see.

Let us know if PTuning matches that price. Justin, they didn't match the price The rules state that the price has to be printed, as in a catalog or website, no verbal stuff (over the phone etc.).I was worth a try though.
