can you see the blind spot?

Post by Zig in East Orleans »

Holy Cow! I am going from a Sunfire to the Vibe and sheeesh! I'm sorry but i can't get used to this terrible blind spot. I don't know if it's me (i'm only 5' 10"), but i am really not comfortable changing lanes in traffic. I think i've done more shoulder checks in the last week than I ever have. (and been driving 20 years) Anyone else had this problem adjusting? ps, pretty cool fog lately huh? i like it, i like it alot!

I know what you mean, it does take some getting used to and I still do shoulder checks a lot. I get worried about fogetting to check before I switch lanes. I recently drove a corolla and was suprised at how having the rear window so much closer made a big difference in visibility out the back/sides. Welcome to genvibe, how long have you had it it and what kind did you get?

How are your mirrors adjusted, Zig? Most people set them so they can see the sides of the car. However hardly anyone gets hit by their own quarter panel, so if you adjust the left mirror out until you can just barely see the side of your Vibe with your head up against the window, the blind spot disappears. I start with mine like this, then 'fine tune' them until a passing car's image moves smoothly from the rear view mirror to the side view, with no overlap. With this set up, by the time a vehicle moves out of the side mirror frame, I can see it in my peripheral vision. Because it is wide angle, the passenger side mirror is less critical. This set up takes a little getting used to, so give it a few days before declaring that it doesn't work for you. PS: The rear seat headrests can also block vision. If so, and you seldom carry rear passengers, you might think of jettisoning them...

Joatmonme gots the Fusion Orange base, last week!I like it. Esp going from a boring automatic to a 5 speed. Just a bit weird getting used to a Toyota sound ringy tingy engine from a Pontiac!Certainly looking forward to adding some cool tint and upgrading winter tyres next year. It came w Conti's and my lord, this week we had a storm that certainly proved them quite useless!

The Vibe has huge D pillars. The rear window in the Matrix is larger. I'm used to the blindspots by now, though I'm always surprised how much more I can see whenever I drive another vehicle.

I find the blind spot issue is non-existant if I don't raise the headrest. Which I don't seeing as how I never ever drive with my head resting against it anyway.
