But I have an inter-cooler...and well? I just have to use it!10 years ago a man offered to trade me this "air-cooler "from an air craft,"he said, for three itemms that i was willing to trade. He said that the magic air-cooler would make the "been stock"grow(in power)! This would be for my 86 Isuzu NPR 3.9 turbo diesel truck that did not have an intercooler then.So I traded an item called a "turbo-gard", which was basicly a 1qt canister w/an oil line w/a T at the end. U mount the canister above the turbo, and it fills with oil while the motor is running. when the motor is off,the cool oil drains on the turbo bearings as they continue to spin for up to a few minutes.Because turbos can get hot!1200 degrees+!!(I knoww because I had a pyrometer on mine, and Id seen it glow red)And i traded a Duck and a Cow, for my other two items I sold the truck and buried the air-cooler in the garage;knowing that someday..yes ..some day ,""I will find use for this magic cooler that came from the heavens that help crafts travel at speeds that fly!!"So now I have this 5spd Vibe. And it is naturally asperated. But I have an INter-cooler... and well? The wc turbo kit will come with an air cooler... but mine is better..because it "came from the heveans that help crafts travel at speeds that fly!!". And....because its mine.I keep wondering if I can simply buy a ceramic coated exaust manifoldmatched with a turbo ,of course, figure out the plumbing, to fit my sentimental cooler , and avoid new injectors , and keep the boost a little low. Why?1) save money2) Because I worry about HEAT!! 1800 rpm spooling and waste gate=heat. Turbos are more efficient than sc.But Im thinking that I might feel better with one that doesnt start to spool till after 3000rpm and doesnt need as much of a waste gate. all to produce less heat and less stress on turbo and motor. Its not that hard to keep tha vibe between 4000 and 6000rpms.I dont really knoww if 3 psi is enough, but Id like to keep it cool. And i like lag! (what?) And besides more Power , i want better mileage just to feel smug. And yes, turbos can give better fuel economy if done conspicuously!Good VibrationsFaultline

I don't know anything about your inter cooler but I know it's old and it was used on a aircraft. The West Covina inter cooler is bran new and was designed for there system. It will also fit the Vibe without any problems and the piping will also fit perfectly unlike your old air craft inter cooler.I'd use the Wset Covina inter cooler since it comes in the kit and it's made to fit. Yours might leak, be clogged or damaged inside and you can't tell, might not fit or just might not work at all for this application.Save yourself the headache and sell it on ebay.
The cooler says it is an "alpha United"? I cant find my tape measure, but using a piece of typing paper for a guage? The fin/tunnell section is 6"x14" and 3'' thick. The ports on the outside tubes look 1.5" and the openings are on the same end.It seems obviously aluminum. And appears very solid. Of course i would have it pressure tested for any leaks.one reason I talked about keeping the psi low on the turbo , is so that it would be like a starter kit that did not need an air-cooler. so then,my air-cooler would only help.3500$ is a lot of$ , even if it is a bargain of a turbokit, the one that West covina is making. Alpine says 3000$ for theirs.I probably will go with West Covina in the end.the Testing they have done for their system will be worth the price of the Kit. and, WestCovina is less than 90 minutes from my house. I hope they do Installs.then that would be a sure bet.but the Mad scientist in me wants to build my own creation!Good vibrations faultline

You are so lucky to live that close to them. Of course they install what they sell. damn I wish I was closer. I'd have them install mine.I'm sure if you don't want the inter cooler they would work something out with you. They might not warrenty there turbo though. Who knows. You'll have to e-mail them.
I had the day off yesterday, so called Ed Asuncion of West Covina Toyota to find out about the turbo kit , and what about my intercooler? After our discussion,he pretty much persuaded to go with their complete kit rather than icorperating my own cooler;here is why.He said that right now that he could direct me toward a handful of people who could make a quick kit ,using my cooler ,but "who knows how it would do? it would be untested".He assurred me again that they could be throwing the kit together quickly them selves, but that they wanted to do it right. If I understood him correctly, he was talking of testing about every aplication for the 1zz-fe. celica , corrolla, matrix etc.,etc. and also, auto tranny ,manual tranny,etc.etc.. ...the kit will be tailored for every application and tested in varied conditions -weather-elevation-____?daily driver vs.racing etc.I got the impression that they were not going to be rushed thoughBut the kit sounds great!!I asked him if they needed test cars ? and he told that a lot of people asked him that ,but he offered me to e-mail him telling him of my car.he said that you never know who is sincere about offering their car, but that therewould be a bargain to be worked out ,if the car was used for testing. So I might just do that. I have extra wheels to get me about if needed. But as for my aircraft cooler, it may just have to be E-bay,or the garage again.good vibrations Faultline
