New Vibe GT owner

Post by elrodvoss »

Greetings...Well guys I would have to 1st say that I have been digging through this forum for the past 2 weeks just learning about the vibe. Was looking for a "mini" SUV, and was looking at the RAV4s at 1st, but when I saw the vibe, I liked it better. But as a new vibe GT owner, I do have alot of questions, so parden the stupidty or the fact if they repeat elsewhere in the forum.1: Im assuming that the GT has the supercharger (s/c)in it. Is this something that kicks in all the time or just whenyou hit high revs. I dont usualy hit high revs. If im highway driving, I will shift at 5000 - 5500 RPM. If city then around 4000-4500PRM. I thought that I read somewhere that it dont kick in till 6K.2: The inner air filter. Does anyone know where its possible to get a HEPA version of that or would I just have to make myself one from a larger one?3: The car is a 03 Vibr GT w/ 3600 miles on it. (3440 when bought), I know that break in is 500 miles. So it should be save to drive how ever I want? This is the 1st new-new car I have owned. Newest car I had before had 75K miles on it.4: I have been looking all over the web for different mods and upgrades for the Vibe to improve and possibly "pimp" it out. Right now im just looking at: A mod for the sideview mirrors that will ad the turn signal to them. A Grill mod for the front of the car (both of which is on ebay). A rubber mat for the cargo area (dont want the carpet, get too dirty too fast). All I have found is hard rubber/plastic or carpet. What would you all suggest for other mods or improvements for the car? Im looking at the other expensive ideas too, but that is a ways down the road. (possibly lower and/or plus wheels). I am thinking of the CAI, but I dont know what kinda HIT i will get with the MPG. Like the idea of more power, but I dont want the MPG to drop too much. I am drive this 20 miles to work every day (5 city, 15 Highway, 1 way). So MPG is important to me. I budget $30 a week for gas, and it takes like 23-24 to fill ($1.95/G for Premium). But the reason I wanted the extra room, was for my paintballing sports for my team and EQ. Well, any suggestions or websiets would be greatful, esp if you know a really good vibe assessory website. Thanks and fair thee well...

I have my Injen CAI and I love it. I actually have not had any decrease in gas mileage since I installed it. My mileage has stayed the same and even increased at times. All winter I got 28-29 miles per gallon. I just filled up last night and got just over 30 mpg. The driving I do here in northern VA is a mixture of highway and city. There is a lot of traffic and many lights that I have to stop at. I get that mileage while still having fun, hitting "lift" usually everyday. Lift is the technology our GT engines feature when you hit about 6200 rpm through 8300 rpm. You must try it! It is a rush!Later,

The fear of getting into the higher revs goes away quickly once you get used to it. Get to know your lift, especially on the highway. Don't be afraid of sixth gear either, it works really well when just cruising.Welcome to GenVibe, and also the GT community!

I would definitely recommend a CAI and an exhaust system. They work very well as a combination, but if I had to choose one first it would be the CAI.Congratulations on your new GT and welcome to GenVibe!

Welcome to genvibe and the GT family! As has already been mentioned, our GT's do not have a supercharger, but instead use a 2nd cam profile for a 50hp "lift" at ~6200 RPM's (it feels like a mini narrow-band turbo..well, almost ).Quote »A mod for the sideview mirrors that will ad the turn signal to them. Boosting horsepower.Ok, I though it was a s/c, I always hear people refer to it. Can a S/C be placed on a GT with out too much problems? Ive been trying to rev it to the 6.5K point, just hard cause im not use to the high engine noise. The last "sport" car that I had was a 81 280Z straight 6 (beat the hell out of that car, but it was fast).About the only way I can get it to 6.5K is radio blareing and windows down, but then I was still nervous (never usualy go above 5K, let alone 6-7K).Quote, originally posted by lumpcus »what color? mono or two-tone? pics?its the dark blue metalic color, with the plastic trim on the botom half. The driving I do here in northern VA is a mixture of highway and city. There is a lot of traffic and many lights that I have to stop at. Well, I dont have any engine mods on it (yet), but with normal driving (ok, wussy driving since I havent "lifted" yet, eheheh), I just refueled (right when the gas light came on) and put in 11 gallons (93 Oct) into it. I put 253 miles since my last refuel, so im getting like 23 MPG. The only "hard" driving I have done, is I barked the wheels 2-3 times. Just go dead stop and rev it to 3K and let up. I can usualy bark them 3-4 times before they grip back. I havent been driving with anything extra running (fan on, but no defrost/AC/defrog). Do you have any suggestions for the lower MPG. Its been crazy with the temps here (South Chicago-Land) between 30 and 60 for the past week. Its garage kept, so that aint a factor. The only thing I could think of, is that I do work 2 jobs and I have an hour between them. So I would usually just recline back and crash for 30 mins. I do that twice a week. Could that be dropping my MPG that much? Also im not sure what gas carmax was using in the car. I dont think they would have 91+ Oct at their lot, so maybe it just has some low grade gas in there (on 2nd refuel now with 93 Oct)Thanks and fair thee well...

Nope, that's apparently about right for this atmosphere. I've been getting 22 MPG and i'm in Atlanta! I'm hoping it'll get better with warmer weather. It also seems that the GT is MUCH better with highway than city. And I mean more of a gap than most cars.Heh, if you're worried about how loud the engine gets in lift, you better wait on that CAI..it's a lot louder. Don't be afraid of it, the car has a built-in limiter that kicks in when you go into redline. As for chirping the tires, yeah, I do that a lot...Accidentally though.

Idleing for 30 mins. wont help your car very much and will definately effect your mileage. Combustion also isn't great at idle. I would change my oil as it may still be on the factory fill at that milage. Shift for lift! The intake and exhaust on the GT are actually very free flowing for stock parts but the aftermarket bits can add a bit more juice and sound. Welcome.
