Heater/blower fan noise.

Post by Houston »

The fan blade is occassionally hitting something in the housing (you are all familiar with the tinny or ticky high-pitched noise I'm talking about). Anyone know of an easy fix so's I can avoid the dealer? Thanks.

The blower is located behind the glovebox. Removal procedure is pretty easy. Might wanna pull it out yourself and take a peek at it. Might be something as simple as a leaf stuck in there. If you get on your back and look up behidn the glovebox, you should see an electrical connector. Disconnect it. Then remove four (4) screws on a square plastic panel. The motor and fan should be right behind it.

As per your instructions, I just checked it out. Think I found the connection you mention, but don't see four screws in a position for holding in the fan housing. Not even sure which is the fan housing... is it more toward the center? Talk about an uncomfortable position! Even if I knew what to do I'm not sure I could do it in those cramped quarters.

Unfortunately, all I can do at the moment is go by the service manual. My Vibe is at the shop tonite. But I get it back tomorrow, as soon as I do I'll check it out myself and take some pics with the digicam for you if you don't mind waiting until later tomorrow night?EDIT: My bad, there are only three screws holding it in. Not sure if that helps though. The electrical connector should be a two-wire connector also.Anyway, I'll snap some pics tomorrow!

Lol. Just some routine maintenance.* Oil change, lube, etc.* Needed a tire repaired (though found out it can't be, and had to get 4 new tires, plus 2 new wheels cause I somehow destroyed two wheels)* Trying to get the battery covered under TSB before I hit 36k* Needed that main wire harness bushing reinserted back into the firewall (oops! )* Needed work done on the hood to combat flaky paint from when it was replaced in October following my deer incident.

Thanks! I'll wait for your photos, but probably won't see them until sometime later in the weekend - probably Sunday afternoon. Thanks a million!Good luck with your repairs... even better luck with getting that new battery.

The blower is hidden behind the PCM, not sure why the service manual failed to mention moving that. I'll take a look at it today and get some pictures and a walkthrough.

Guess God has been on my side. Either that (and much more likely!), I've been lucky, 'cause the problem has not reared it's ugly head since my original post. Thanks for responding, as I now know what to look for should it ever again happen.
