tweeter noise?

Post by Spatula »

I finally spent a weekend putting in my my new audio system. Everything is in except for the rear speakers, and it all works well, but I have one problem. My tweeters (from my polk db6500's) give off a crackling static kind of noise. It sounds like bad radio reception, or the sound you'd get if you tuned your radio to a non-existant station. The speakers and subwoofer do not have this problem. I ran the power cable and the audio cables on opposite sides of the car, so I don't think it's that... Any clues?-Spatula

Did you have the M&T system? Nav System? Are you running the speakers off the headunit or an amp? Which amp? How're the speakers connected?

OK, here we go =] :I had the base 4-speaker non-M&T system. That's totally gone. My HU is a RioCar with line-level RCA outs. Those go along the right side of the car to the trunk, where i've got an Audiobahn A4004T. It currently powers just the front speakers and tweeters, because I haven't installed the rear speakers yet. The front speakers are polk db6500's, mounted in the door where the old speakers were. The tweeters are mounted on those little triangles on the top of the inside of the doors (opposite the outside mirrors). Their wires go into the door, where they meet up with the crossovers (i believe that's the name for those little boxes that split the signal between the speaker and tweeter...). From there I've got speaker wire running along the right side (with the RCA cables) back to the trunk to meet up with the amp. Jahntessa, I just want to say thanks for all the help you've given me! I never would've gotten this far without your assistance.

Okay, so it goes like this:Headunit (RioCar, very nice, never seen one in person, but always wanted one) -> Audiobahn 4004T -> Polk Crossovers -> SpeakersIs that right?I'm assuming you only connected two channels of the 4004T, yes? You also made sure to have the tweeters hooked up to the right spot on the crossovers, making sure the polarity (+/-) was right?I'm just going over everything..coverin' all the bases. Also..try turning the filter on the amp to Highpass if it isn't already..and maybe turning the gain down a little bit?It sounds odd. I have the older series Polks and the MOMO components connected to a JL amplifier with about as much power, and I haven't had that happen. On another question, what size power cable did you use?

Ah, the gain! I turned it down, and voila, problem solved. Now my audio sounds most exellent, without stupid tweeter noises. Thanks a lot!
