I ordered my Vibe (base, 5 speed, alloy) on August 26th.My salesman told me i shoud get it in about 2 or 3 months.Usualy wait time for a Vibe in Canada is arount 4 to 6 months.I called him this am and he told me my vibe is on production since October 17th and I should have hit by the end of november.I don't know how my salesman get me a Vibe in a so short time frame, but I gave me very good service. If I calculate well, production date is October 17th, 1 week to built the car and about 3 other weeks for shipping. It means I should get my Vibe between the middle and the end of November. If all these dates are wright, I will take about 12 weeks to receive my car. No so bad for a Canucks.
quote: I will take about 12 weeks to receive my car. No so bad for a Canucks.Good for you Has something improved? Have they allocated more Vibes for Canadians? Has the demand slowed in Canada? I probably wouldn't be so Frosty if they had delivered mine in 12 weeks.

Hopefully they are trying to get more to Canada. I doubt the demand has slowed much. I ordered one at the beginning of September and haven't even been given a build date yet. I sent an email to the NUMMI plant, telling them of our misfortune here in Canada and the long waits, asking them if they plan to increase production earmarked for Canada. No reply yet. Anybody know of anyone who we could contact to ask about Canadian wait times?
Vibe Rater, give a call to your salesman and he should be able to give you the order reference number. Then call GM (1 800 GMDRIVE for english) to get the built date. I could take few minutes to get the built date cause they have to call the NUMMI plan.Few weeks after I ordered my Vibe, I called my salesman to get the order reference number and he gave it to me. After that, I called GM customer servive to get info about the production of my car. According to the reference number the salesman gave me, built date was the week of december 9th. Yesterday, (October 22nd), I called again GM Canada and the built date was the same. Then I called my salesman (who told me when I ordered my Vibe it should take 2-3 months) to have his info about my car. He told me built date was October 17th. I called back GM right away to clarify the situation. The person who I spoke with asked me at who told me the bult date was Oct. 17th and I gave her my salesman's name and phone number. she called him and the order reference number has changed since he gave it to me. The real built date is realy Oct. 17th.I suspect my salesman found a car exactly like mine ordered from another dealer and they cancelled the order.I don't know how he found that car but the most important is I will get it faster then I expected (about 9 weeks faster)I though my salesman was no giving the truth (you know, salesman sometimes doesn't tell the truth just to make a sales) but I was wrong. He gave me a very good service and it is hard to find better.
I was incredibly lucky as well... the night I went to order my Vibe (June 25), someone cancelled the order they had placed three months earlier. So I took his order (same car I wanted just a different colour) and received my car 1 month later.

T'es bien chanceux Ben!!! I don't know when I will receive mine but my build date is October 28. I was thinking that your dealer took my Vibe (Same color and almost same equipment) but I'm probably wrong!!! Just kidding!A big dealer like yours can get more vehicules than a small. He probably have an order's cancellation and change the order to fit your needs. Very good for you! I'm jealous...Bye

You guys probably won't believe this, but I actually sent a letter to the NUMMI plant and told them about our situation here in Canada (many people waiting 6 months for a VIBE). The VP of production sent an email back to me asking what my order number is and what options I had ordered and the name and phone number of the dealer. Maybe he'll bump me up. I asked them in my original letter if they are planning on bumping up Canadian production to significantly shorten our ridiculous wait times. No answer on that, but hopefully it will get them thinking. Most people would not wait that long for any car.
Why is it so hard to get the vehicles you want,UpNorth? Are they special orders?I see vehicles coming here in the States, well at least in the NYC area, more frequently.I.m sure I could locate a vehicle I want within a click away..why the BIG problem?
We're trying to find that out too. No idea why. GM Canada employees don't even get an employee discount on the VIBE, whereas American GM employees get a full discount and zero percent financing. It doesn't make sense. Not special orders.

I can't wait for my Vibe. I bought some equipement and they are wating my Vibe to be installed.A have aPionner DEH-P8400, alarm system with pager, remote starter, aftermarket keyless entry, 2x 10" Sony X-Plod, JBL 180.2 power amp sleeping in my room.I'm in a hurry to install them. I hope my sub will sound great in a Vibe. It was not so bad in my Montana and I think will kick much more cause the Vibe is much smaller then my mini-van.Also, I think to change my 2 Sony X-Plod for a 12" JL. It will puch more and will take less space in the trunk.
Chanceux Ben !Can't believe that you ordered yours Aug 26th and she`s on the line Oct 17th...Ordered mine a month before (july 22nd) and my dealer has no news yet when she will be on production... They never heard about the strike on western US harbours affecting NUMMI plan. !!! Still crossing fingers and hope for christmas gift - may be.

Damn! Seems some Canucks are getting lucky. I orderd my Vibe June 24, and still don't even have a build date. I called the GM number, and they called my dealer and tried to give them flack because I had to call GM directly for info. The person at my dealer who is responsible for keeping track of orders chewed out the rep from GM for not given them any information on ordered Vibes. My dealer has been so angry with GM on the Vibe availability problems. And this is a fairly big dealer. The salespeople are telling customers that they will have a 6-8 month wait for a Vibe now (just to cover their own butts), and they are losing customers who aren't willing to wait any longer for their orders (I was talking to my salesman when one of his customers cancelled her order - she ordered her Vibe the week after I ordered mine). The only good thing out of this has been the service the sales staff has given me. They have been great. I had a lease with another dealer that I wasn't willing to extend, so they set me up with an "in-house" lease while I wait. If my Vibe does come in this year (which is the absolute latest I'm willing to wait for it - I guess I really want this car to wait even that long ) I'm definitely going to bring all of my service needs to this dealer. They have definitely earned my business. I can't say the same for GM though...... And the wait continues .... (allmost 18 weeks and counting)
Base Vibe, auto, Neptune, power, alarm, 6 Cd with upgraded speakers, cargo mat, rear bumper protector, Stealth theft-deterent system. Ordered June 24 - delivery on January 24.
Have you call all Pontiac dealers in your area. When I ordered my Vibe, salesman told me there's no Vibe at all for sale in the area. They need to order it. Last evening, I gave a call to few Pontiac dealers and most of them have few Vibes sleeping on their lot. Try to contact as much Pontiac dealers as you can and may be you will get a Vibe sooner.

The dealer I ordered through had only received 32 Vibes by the end of July, and had sold 31 of them. The last Vibe is a manual GT with all of the possible options (and a $31K CDN price tag), and they just haven't been able to sell it. Every other Vibe they get in that isn't already spoken for lasts only 1-2 days on the lot before they are sold. I might just ask my salesman to check the dealers in the city for me. I would really like to give him my business since he's tried so hard to help us out.

I made my weekly call to GM on Tuesday. Still no build date. I really wish there was another car out there that I wanted... As it stands now, I'll be lucky if I get it in December.

My salesman find out a cancellation and now my Vibe is on the train.
Ben who is your sales guy at Gravel, mine was Patrick Bourgeois.I checked out their website, they have quite an inventory of Vibes but they don't tell you if they are sold or not.Mine was on the website, but the car was built for me and it showed the sales price and didn't mention that it was sold.when you get your Vibe we will have to the Montrealers together for the first Vibe Quebec gathering.....

Unfortunately, they can be sold or on the train... Also, a car sold will stay there a few days after the new owner took delivery. This system on the internet is from GM Canada and it's not always up to date. Maybe they update it once a week !!!

I feel for you guys up north. From what I undertand after hearing a discussion from one of my coworkers who took a NUMMI tour, they have a very precise system of producing cars. The module for production is of course Japanese and they spit out cars left and right. I honestly beleive they are just having issues with delivery of the Vibe do to material shortages. And it does not help with this west coast lock out.Somehow last month I lost one of the roof rack mount covers, the black plastic one on the front driver side, It took the dearlership 2 1/2 weeks to get it for me.What was great is that they covered it under warranty for me. I have no clue as to how that came off. All is good now. Off Subject :I think Ben was talking about all the goodies he had ready to install into his vibe, I would check out the KICKER L5 or L7 Solo-Baric Subwoofer :http://www.kicker.com/ShowPage.cfm?file ... UBWOOFERSI had a 10 inch in my Nissan Sentra and it slapped the pants off everybody else. Let me know how the JL Audio sounds.Sorry about getting all excited, I have a thing for clarity in my ride when it comes to tunes.
Me too I have good news today...I've called GM customer service this morning and they told me that my VIBE has been built yesterday (28-10-2002). My VIBE is almost finished and will probably leave NUMMI at the end of the week!I'm very happy... maybe in 3-4 weeks, I will drive it after a 4½ months wait...

Hi Ben........Dealeras do that if they find another that has not been sold at another dealer the will try to sell you that one, I was also give that option and declined it, I also did research on my car with GM thatmy car was actually brand new and the proper info I had on paper matched with the factory work order, everything checked positive
I called my dealer back last week....Got bad news. He told me my Vibe was scheduled for production on Oct. 17th, no buit Oct 17th. So my salesman told me I should get my car first week of December. I HATE WHEN PEOPLE PLAY WITH WORD TO TEL US WANT WE WANT TO HEAR INSTEAD OF THE TRUTH. I'm thinking about going to another dealer......
Ya know, you would think the dealers would be getting sick and tired of all us VIBE purchasers hounding them. They should be raising cane with GM. GM is starving the Canadian market of VIBES. As a consequence, we don't get value pricing like our American cousins (besides the 6 month wait). Keep hounding your dealer, don't take lame answers, demand that he hound GM Canada to increase Canadian production at NUMMI. Send an email to this dude daniel.flores@gm.com . He is involved in production planning at GM. Tell him.

alright, you've totally lost me. I ran it through a french english translator and got some non-sensicle msg about drinking screech...I'm currently on hold with GMDrive. My weekly dissapointment...Hey... MY GOD! I have a build date!!! Dec 30. Can you freaking believe that Dec 30... (removed) is that. By the time its delivered it will have been close to 7 months. Well atleast there is light at the end of the tunnel.I'm guessing that this will make me the longest wait?

Well atleast there is light at the end of the tunnel.I'm guessing that this will make me the longest wait?I think it is very important, for yourself and for the benefit of future Canadian VIBE orders, that you raise cain when you call the GM people. Tell them how unacceptable it is to wait that long, because it is. Don't accept the standard form answers that they are programed to give. Demand answers. Ask why. And when they give an answer, ask why again. Don't be too sympathetic because they are just doing a job. They won't let you speak to the people who actually make the decisions, so we have to give it to the people on the phone. This is such a simple problem, but GM refuses to address it. The love we are sending them isn't getting through to their hearts. It would only take NUMMI a couple of days of dedicated Canadian production to clear the backlog, but they are reluctant to do it. (I'm sure our American cousins wouldn't mind tacking a couple of days onto their 5 week wait to accomodate). I truly believe GM is doing a very poor job allocating production, and they don't even realize it. You see, everybody, from the dealers and the phone call center people right on through to NUMMI itself really don't give a damn, so our job is to make them give a damn. Our concerns and complaints are not being passed on, and if they are, they are not being addressed. If the dealers, and phone call center people get tired of being ratted out everytime we call, they might actually say or do something to the people that can really make a difference. Obviously, so far they haven't. We need to make George W. Bush look like a pacifist. I'm doing my part, emailing NUMMI, emailing GM, emailing the CAW, calling the dealer and GM often but as long as I'm the only one doing it, I'm just a blowhard. Unite and conquer. Thank you very much.

Thank you very much. Last week I got my post purchase questionaire in the mail requesting my opinion on my purchase experience with the dealer.Well, my blood pressure went up so I put it away. They sent me a reminder so I will be sending in my $.02 on how they screwed up my summer by lying, concealing, and denying about my delivery date that ended up being 21 weeks vs. 6-8 that was quoted me at the dealer. There isn't anyone in my peer and family group who doesn't know how crappy GM treated me w.r.t my ordering experience. My dealer came through with the beater lumina so I would have some wheels for the summer but that doesn't let GM off the hook. The questionaire is directed at my dealership experience, which wasn't perfect, but was ok under the circumstances. I probably will attach a tirade about how they discriminate against the poor Canadians and advise them how they have soured my first ever domestic auto purchase. If it will be my last remains to be seen. If GM doesn't want to take the Canadian market seriously, just let us know.

Thank you very much. I know how you feel. I ordered my Vibe at the end of June, was told 3-4 months which was great since I had a lease that was up at the end of September. Checked in with the dealer in July, and they told me GM was now saying 4-6 months. When September came around they set me up with a '99 Grand Am SE. Not bad for a temp ride (the dealer bent over backwards to make us happy). Since then I have called GM every week, and so has the dealer. I even have my own rep there (name is Tyson - ext.2831). During my first call he put me on hold, and called the dealer to b*tch them out because I had called GM directly and they should be dealing with me. The order manager at my dealer gave him an earfull about how they had angry customers, because GM wasn't giving them any straight answers. He got back on the phone with me, and was oh so polite. Every week since I called, and usually got his voice mail. He would take up to two weeks to call me back. Never any real news, but he kept promising that he was looking into it. My dealer kept calling me to let me know the crap they were getting from GM as well (they lost several clients who just wouldn't wait over 4 months). Finally, last night the dealer called me to let me know that my car was "released" (anyone know exactly what this means), and that was a guarantee that they would have it for me before the end of the year (so I can use my full GM points - don't get me started on the new points program ...). I agree that complaints to GM seem to be falling on deaf ears. I doubt my experience, and our persistence (mine and the dealer's) will have any real impact on how GM deals with its Canadian Vibe clients. I don't think it hurts though. I was lucky to have a dealer that went out of its way to help, and had the exact attitude towards GM as I did. Their customers were getting screwed, and they couldn't help because GM was the problem. My sales person is warning potential Vibe clients who come into their dealership to expect 8 month waits, so they don't get their hopes up. Heck, last week they just got 4 stock Vibes they had ordered in April (unfortunately none of them had the options we wanted). Its only been 18 weeks for us so far (not bad compared to some of my fellow Canucks), and I really hope it was worth the wait. It's been so long since the test drive that I forget how the Vibe drives, and feels. I couldn't even go back to let my girlfriend try it out since the dealer never had any in stock. I'll keep you guys posted as I hear more (like a build date).I know patience is a virtue, but this is getting ridiculous. Good luck to my fellow Canadians in waiting.

slave and I ordered from the same dealership. What is interesting is that when i called my salesman to talk about me finally having a build date, he said that 2 other order - earlier than mine - still don't have build dates...I wonder if they've started to keep track of the complainers. I've been calling every week for a while now....

I think the salesperson you have makes a difference also. Mine has really been pushing their order manager, and letting her know when his clients complain. I guess you and I lucked out with our dealer 2fatty. Seems most of our fellow Vibe owners, and owners in waiting, have had bad experiences with their dealers.

I have "earnings" on my GM credit card that are falling off the 7 year conveyer belt every month. She told me to call the toll free number on the back of the GM Card to get them to freeze the earnings balance at the current amount. I called, they didn't even ask me for the order number, and cheerfully put a 3-month freeze on my earnings balance. I wish I'd known that before $150 fell off the earnings on my October statement. At least, the freeze keeps $50 from being lost with the November statementSo, if your "full GM points" is for the GM card, give the card folks a call and see if you can get a freeze put on pending delivery.
