independent extended warranty companies

Post by aron »

Hi everyone. I am new to the forum - this is my first post; however I have been viewing it for several weeks. There is great information on here. I bought my Vibe a couple months back. I have been researching extended warranties. Does anyone know or have had experience with 1source auto or warranty direct? I don't know much about extended warranties but I have viewed both contracts and they look very similar to me. Is one better than the other as far as service? Thanks, I will appreciate any info you might be able to render.

I don't know much about extended warranties either. Some people say they've gotten a good deal throught their regular auto insurance company though.Welcome to genvibe!

I have purchased an extended warranty for my car from an independent company (in my view, comparable with the two that you mentioned). They were not very cooperative when I had a transmission breakdown, but in the end approved my claim. If you are interested in my experience, send me an e-mail and I can give you details. I would not buy again an extended warranty that is not backed by the manufacturer. If you decide to buy such a contract, make sure you buy one that covers seals and gaskets (otherwise you might have surprises). I am pretty sure you can buy a GM protection plan (Major Guard) for a good price - search the internet.

I bought one for my wife's car. I went through Continental Warranty. Here is the post where I talked about it...http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=7048The cool thing about them is, it cost 1300 for a 6yr, 100k mile warranty, then for an extra 150, if I don't use it, they will give me my money back. They also gave me 12 mos same as cash on it.MUCH cheaper than buying through a dealer. Dealer wanted 1600 for the same thing.

I've stated before but might as well just mention it again. Sometimes cheap is exactly what you get. I deal with extended warranty companies all the time in my line of work and there are a lot of cheap ones out there that will change your contract on on you, decide to no longer cover items they used to. Or try and say you do not keep your vehicle maintained and will not cover a item that is not even related to proper maintanence. BE very careful, a dealership sold extended warranty may cost more, but the dealership will fight for you, and the warranty company knows they are obligated to come true due to the fact the dealership sells their policy.

I want to thank everyone for their input. I basically was wondering if anyone had dealt with either of the companies I had mentioned. I am aware you need to be careful. Not sure what I will do at this point. I have a friend who works at the local GM dealership where I purchased my Vibe who looked over the contracts from these two companies and said they looked OK to him but that he hadn't heard of them. Once again, thanks for the advice and I'll stay tuned into the forum. This is really a great site. So far I like my Vibe pretty much. Went from a minivan which I had for 10 years to this. It is taking me a bit to get used to; the visibility through the back isn't what I had with the van. Had to remove the backseat headrest for better visibility. I'm quite short. I also have some concerns about the paint. Seems there are a lot of problems with it. Mine does have a couple "dings" from rocks already. I didn't have any problems with my van and am hoping that this vehicle holds up as well.

I have a good line on OEM GM Majorguard Warranties for the Vibe if you're interested. I have dealt with the company on my Expedition and Crew Cab so I feel comfortable with them. They absolutely beat the pants off local dealers.5 yr 100k - 100 deduct - 1285.006 yr 100k - 100 deduct - 1530.00Tack on about 250 to get to a zero deductTalk to Donna or Charley at 800-593-5525The Ford side of it has a website at http://www.fordwarrantycentral.comDont know why they dont do the GM's on the web anymore but they are for realJust my .02Bob

Thanks Bob for the information and web site. Perhaps I will phone them. Am wondering if they have any other options as I am leaning toward a longer period of years with about the same mileage. I don't put many miles on a vehicle per year so a 10/100,000 is more what I had in mind. I appreciate your help.Julie - aron

I've had a couple of non-GM extended warranties (purchased from the dealer at the time I bougt the cars). The best was merely inconvenient, as I had to take a Buick to a Chev dealer for work, since the local Buick dealer wasn't an agent for the warranty company. The worst took three days to even talk to, and was side-stepping and blowing smoke from the moment I did. Sounded like nothing that could possibly go wrong was covered, but to find out I'd have to have repairs done at a shop of their choice, send in the receipts and then they'd decide if it might be covered!I haven't had an extended warranty on any of my last three new vehicles, but if I did, they would for sure be 100% GM, not just sold by a GM dealer!

I have had an aftermarket warranty before, But I cant rember the name it was the biggest ripoff of all. In the fine details of it you had to basicly flush & replace All fluids in the car every 12 months by a shop. to keep the warranty vaild. Then they didn't want to pay when problems came about.
