I was curious if anyone else has tried putting in sound absorbing material in their doors. I did this recently and I've noticed the difference. I replaced all the speakers in my car and since I had the door panels off, I figured I would also put in some materials to help make the sound more natural and also to lessen road noise. The factory only puts small amount of padding on the driver side, even less on the passenger side, and NONE on the rear doors.I used carpet padding that I bought a yard sale for $1. You won't be able to cut out a size to cover the entire interior; there are sections on the plastic inner cover that makes direct contact with the door, and therefore the padding will prevent you from putting the inner door cover back on. I just cut out strips and strategically placed them where there would be no interference with replacing the inner cover.Anyway, road noise has been reduced and the music sound is improved (or at least I want to think that!). Too bad I don't have a dB tool to measure road noise before and after.
That sounds like a very good idea to me. Both driver side doors on my Vibe rattle like no other even, if I only have the bass set at 2.I have to go to the dealer and get my head unit replaced because when I slow down, the cd player gets tilted and causes it to make this really anoying grinding noise, liek the cd is hitting something inside. It's not damaging any of my cds, but I can ;t listent o half of them because it's so loud. Anyways, while I was there I was going to ask the dealer to try and fix the rattling in my doors. Do you think I should have the dealer look at it or just insulate it myself? If I do end up insulating it myself I may have to consult you on taking off the door panels

It's easy to add insulation. If you remove the plastic film that they put on the inner door (you will see it once you remove the door panel), you can stuff material into the door. Removing the door panel is not difficult, there are two screws to take out, one where the door lever is and the other where the door handle is. Then, pull from the bottom and work upward. You will have to pull the door panel upward once the rest is free from the door, because there is a lip which tucks into the window sill.
