This was in our local paper's evening edition, The Vindicator, Youngstown, Ohio -- 3/15/2004. NUMMI makes a positive mark. Nice to see some positive articles.(sorry, the filesize is a tad large)
I can't "cut & paste" from the .jpg, but alot of what it says about "lean" manufacturing is true where I work at (Delphi). The so-called "team" concept was attempted, but is fizzling out.QNMS could work, but management won't allow it to. 10 years ago, it was all about going from huge, high volume lines to smaller lines with greater quality control, although it's now going back the other direction. Each quarter, every tier of management is trying to "save" money by cutting something out so they look good that quarter, not looking at the future. "Continued Improvement" Oops, back to the topic......Ya, that's a cool article on NUMMI. That is one of the reasons I purchased the Vibe because it was assembled in the United States of America.
Great article! they are now introducing it on the lines in our GM plant. one of the toyota ideas that the union finally accepted. it works!! less repair better quality control. It would be cool to tour the plant.
