AWD CAI, etc.

Post by drw2514 »

I've had my AWD Vibe for almost two years now and I just discovered this site. I'm really interested in giving it more power! I've been looking around the site and it seems like everybody here is really big on CAIs. Is it really worth it? It seems that it'll only get you about a 12hp boost. For $200? And most people seem to like the loud noise that it makes, but I'm not so sure if I'd like that. Also, if I do decide to get one, would I be able to install it? I've NEVER done anything on any car before, besides adding washer fluid and gas.

I'm getting one for my 5spd base Vibe... more noise, more power... ohhh yeah... And yes come to the MI meet, at least to see awsome Vibes and meet Gen Vibe members. See what might work for you on your own ride.

CAI is worth it at least to me it is makes this great loud noise people can hear you coming but its only loud when your foot is on the gas other than that its pretty quiet. The install is really easy its just time consuming you have to take things apart in order and put them back together in order. Dont get discouraged when you read on here that people took 2 hours to do its just a lot of small steps and they take time. The CAI from Injen comes with instructions, all you do is follow them and you will be fine the package includes all thehardware you will need and it comes ready to install. If you decide to get it and also want an exhaust check out http://www.Ptuning.com they have a pachage deal. Magnaflow will give you a 8hp increase I think price for intake and exhaust is around $550. If you just want the intake is $216 for polished and $223 for the black one.

But does any company actually make a cat-back exhasut for the AWD? I checked the Ptuning website and it looks like all the exhaust systems were either for the GT or Base.

As of right now... CAI will work for the AWD.... I have an AWD too... Injen Technology used my car to proto-type their CAI production for the Vibes. I a want Borla to proto-type a cat back exhaust for the AWD... I persued it ever since i bought my car back in May of 2003. I just don't think Borla is interested, they do a lot of talk on wanting to proto type but they haven't done the walk. And a CAI does make a difference in accelerating and freeway passing... And yes, the down side is that it is louder at high rpm.

teammonkeys,With the CAI installed have you noticed if it gives your Vibe a little more power so it doesn't have to downshift so often to climb hills?

You get a little more power, but you still have to down shift to go up hills.i noticed that the transmission is more reponsive, but not by much. you would really have to push down the gas pedal all the way down.To avoid down shifting, get supercharger... My supercharger is coming at the end of this week... I bought it from ilquikgtx.

get the cai, it really wakes your awd drive up! (i have awd also)the sound isn't obnoxious, the only time you notice it is durring acceleration.
