Stock HU with subs

Post by RcRacer440 »

I was wondering if its possible to keep the stock head unit and add a sound system. I want to get two 10" kicker subs and a kicker amp and I dont want to get rid of the 6 disk in dash cd player. I was also wondering if anyone knew if the moon & tunes has an audio in... for my sirius satelite radio. Thanks everyone

I did this before I replaced the HU. You have to make sure that the amp has a high level in (they just use plain old speaker wire) If it has these you can run a "T" off of the rear speaker wires and you can find the pinout at the M&T amp for the remote power and hook that into your amp. It works but the low level input will give you better sound.

As far as I know, the M&T and Six disc do NOT have an audio in.For the subs, yes. You can do it the way Mr. Poopypants says, but a better sound might be if you get a speaker to low level converter (about $20 at CC), and run RCAs from that (which would install behind the radio) to the sub amplifier. That'll give a nice, clean, powerful sound.

An easy way to do this and store the RCA converter is putting it in the panel behind the seat belt panel. There is a hole that you can tuck the box into after hooking it up to the speaker wires (which are right there)

Poopypants, do you have the JVC reciever with the Pict display? I was looking at a jvc with an all red background that you can store pictures on. If I can't get the stock to work I might get that. Do you like yours?

Right now mine is Ice Blue, I have had the red that matches everything perfectly but it got boring. I would highly recommend the JVC though.

i would have to agree with the idea of getting a low level converter. I did this on my Nav system to add subs and it sounds great. Mine is located in that huge empty space behind and underneath the radio in the dash. $20 at Car Toys.

So, I just ordered some subs and an Amp for the Vibe and I was wondering where the pinout for the M&T headunit is? Also, does anyone have instructions on how to hook up subs with a stock headunit? What does the watt rating of the high to low converter have to be? I know there are some answers in this post, but it's all a little over my head.

alright i get to help someonei just did this myself about two months agoyou will need a LOC (i think thats what its called) which you can get at any audio shop. all you have to do is use "T" connectors to hook up the wires behind the radio to your rear speaker wires. (left to left and right to right). then u can plug up the RCA's to the LOC. i don't remember what colors they are but if u need it i can find out. then u need to hook up the remote wire to the amp which i think i hooked it up to the power ant, wire (vibes don't have power ant. but there is still a power ant. wire. hope i was some help if u need anything else hit me up
