Best way to add bass?

Post by bckersey »

I have the Moon and Tunes package, so I have the crappy 2 ohm amp. I was wondering what the cheapest way to add bass would be? I went to Best Buy and they told that I really couldn't do anything for under $500 (w/ installation). The only thing I can think of is putting in different door speakers, but I'm not sure that would solve anything because they would only run at half power. Any ideas?

I put in a new head unit and the bass is UNBELIEVABLE.Pioneer DEH-P7500MPMOSFET 50W x 4.Wow is all I can say!Head unit ran me about 280, but you can get cheaper ones with fewer features that put out similar power!

Is the Moon & Tunes really a big difference in bass? Is the bass all that good in the Vibe (M&T's or not).

Do you have the moon and tunes? All the stores around here tell me that I have to rip out everything because of the amp being 2 ohms. Did you connect the new HU to the amp?

Did you connect the new HU to the amp?Reason being is that we like to bypass the stock amplifier entirely. Read through the Audio forum to see what kinds of issues the M&T people are having with aftermarket stereos, and you'll see why. Factory amplifiers are notoriously a complete PAIN.If you bypass the amplifier, you'll have to replace the door speakers. Running 2 Ohm speakers on aftermarket headunits will eventually destroy the amplifier in the headunit..If you just want to add bass, but have no problems with the rest of it. Go to Crutchfield or eBay and find a Bazooka tube to put in the trunk. They actually sound pretty good in a car like the Vibe.

How do you bypass the amp? Is there wire that needs to be cut when you put the wiring harness on?

Bypassing the amp involves rewiring ALL the speakers. It's not a simple task, from my understanding.Anyway, to answer previous questions, yes, I have the M&T package, and I did not replace the amp. My experience with better bass is simply a HU upgrade.

Installation at a CC. Or what it should be... Buy the radio there and this is the basic list.$150 - Cost of the radio - Estimating with a Pioneer DEHP3600$22 - Wiring harnesses (Make sure it's an 80-2003, not an 80-2003T)$13 - Antenna Adapter$18 - Fit Kit$0 - Labor for the radio itselfAmp Bypass$85 - Labor for the rewiring, might be 75..can never remember$30 - Speaker wire to rewire it all.Speakers:If you go to CC, they'll probably reccomend the Infinity 6002I.. Tell them they can use 6.5" speakers in all doors. DO NOT LET THEM BS YOU. Tell them if they have questions, call store 3416 in Conyers, GA, and i'll set 'em straight. Ask for Justin in the Roadshop.$99 - Price for pair of Infinity's$99 - Price for second pair$66 - Labor for the speaker installs (might get discount with four...forget how much)$15 - Harnesses for the speakersSo you're talking around $600 off the top of my head. If you go with different speakers, price will be different, but i'd stick with either the Infinity's or Polk. You can make it slightly cheaper if you find those speakers online..the labor would be the same..but get a radio from the store, so they don't charge more for the labor to install that...

According about what you told, go with 8 or 10" sub, it will be enough. The 8" will give you little less power but will take less space in your trunk too.
