I am considering purchasing an Eclipse head unit and matching in dash 6 cd changer. The installer tells me that the factory head unit contains something that affects the door chimes and that in order for me to retain the door chime I need something special if I purchase this Eclipse. Anyone had issues with the door chime after instaling an aftermarket head unit? Anyone have an Eclipse and if so how do you like it.
I was told the same thing about the door chime. The fact is... no. It's not true. The factory unit in our cars is simply for audio. It has no ties to the computer or door chimes.
at one point I had my radio removed, completely disconnected, and the door chime still worked.I remember reading about some of the early wiring adapters people were using to put aftermarket radios in these cars, and they had wires to run to the stock radio. Even with the aftermarket radio in the dash, some folks had the stock unit buried somewhere still marginally connected. That was unnecessary. There was even a rumor that the airbags wouldn't work if you replaced the stock radio, as well as rumors that if you disconnected power to the stock radio, you would need to go back to the dealer to get it reprogrammed.I am glad the vibe radios do not include any of those "features"
My 02 sunfire had the door chimes function through the radio...if you pressed and held down #5 with the radio off, it would cycle btween NORMAL and LOUD chime settings. On the stock non-6 disc raido in teh vibe, if you press and hold 5, you will see the same phenomenon. However, the chime is simply a piezo buzzer buried deep within the dash. A toyota specialty. No worries, add your radio.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
Most 03 and newer cars use the GM Databus, which does pipe the chime through the stereo. Unfortunately, Metra (the company that designs harnesses for the cars) is under the impression that the Vibe is one of them, and needs a special harness, which is untrue.

I really did not pay attention to the door chimes when I put my sterio in- but I know in Grand Am's the door chime does go through the radio- but if you do not want to spend the $50 they charge to the module you dont have to---But it looks like it is not needed for any of the sterio options for the Vibe

I have the moon and tunes...what model Eclipse do you have? To my knowledge there is only one place in K.C. that sells these. I had to do quite the research to find out they even existed.
I believe I have the 3431- I bought it a couple of years ago now- I do not think they make that model anymore. There are not many shops that sell them- But in my opinion they are high quality and worth the moneyWith the Moons and Tunes package you will have to bypass the package
