Hello folks! My Vibe has 21000 miles on it and in the last few weeks the Dunlop tires have developed noise that sounds like a tornado. The noise is unbearable. Has anyone else had this experience with the tires on their Vibe? Any ideas? Thanks

A little search yielded the following tires for the 17" in 2004 models:Quote, originally posted by highrevvibegt »Yes in 2004 they offered the moon and toon with the 17" rimsThey are with 215/50/17's Bridgestone Potenza all season tiresFrom: http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...75859At least with the all seasons, there are not as many worries to drive them in the winter.
All I know is what I posted. I know they are 17" . I am not much on tire knowledge (guess that went without saying, huh). Any reccomendations? We are looking at Coopers and Michelins.
They are 17" Dunlop 9000 SP's as Silver noted above. I have the same thing on my car (in the summer). What I've noticed is that if these tires are not rotated as often as they should be, they develop deep grooves and start growling really badly.I would advise replacement if they've gotten to the point that it's really noticeable. After that many miles, you're probably pretty close to the end of the treadlife anyway. As for the Cooper/Michelin question, Michelin is more likely to have something to match the Dunlop performance wise, but Cooper will probably be a bit cheaper. Either is a fine choice though. Just depends on what you want.

I for one thought the Wheel/Tire Moderator would know how to answer the questions since this is his area of expertise. ???The thread is up for anyone to answer, not just the moderator. We have many people here well versed in wheels/tires as well.
hi jrag,I know the question has sorta been answered but here's my input anyway... I too had the OEM Dunlops and found them to be quite noisey, especially from about 8k miles on. They progressively got worse after that 8k mile point. I rotated every other Oil change, which was around 5k then 11k but it still didn't prevent the noise from coming on nor the uneven wear, (mostly on the inside edge). They honestly started to sound like I was constantly on grooved pavement even though I wasn't. Very firm ride. Probably an excellent Summer only tire if you don't mind the noise but I did so I changed them at 12.6k.If you need an All Season tire, the Pirelli P-Zero Nero A/S is a very well rated tire at tirerack.com. I decided on the ContiExtremeContact which is also very highly rated but the sidewalls are a bit too soft for my liking. I'm still much more happy with these than the Dunlops though.Dave
WhenI was shopping for new summer tires, Dunlop FM901's were one of my choices. Everthing I read about them suggested they were excellent tires but every tester mentioned they were very loud. When I bought my Falken FK451's, the owner of the shop even said don't put those on a Vibe, the noise will drive you nuts. I have Dunlop Graspic DS-1 winter tires and even for a winter tire, they are very quiet. I wonder what is making some models noisy and others quiet?
my 3 ¢Joy, welcome to genvibe. Is it likely that the tires wwould develop a tornado sound in a few weeks? If it's not the tires, what else could it be?imho, Moderators moderate, but aren't necessarily the ultimate authority on the particular forum they moderate. Hey jrag,I was wondering... did you drive your Dunlops a lot on the highway? And to all the knowledgeable ones...I did notice when I was tire shopping for a family member that most of the Goodyear tires I looked closely at and actually touched had a MUCH harder rubber than the Dunlops. I know this would lend to a better high speed rating and better dry traction especially on curvy roads but is it possible that the harder rubber could wear faster and possibly uneven (due to the camber of the front wheels) on longer highway drives?I ask this only because I took 4 rather long trips, the shortest being 8 hours 1 way and my tires were wearing poorly still with 2 rotations @ 10-12k. Would a softer rubber tire make a difference in even-ness of wear on long drives... Not in overall wear but even-ness because of a better ability to bend and flex to the road allowing more even tread contact?Just a thought...Dave
I do drive on the highway a lot. I guess it is most of my driving. I bought some Cooper Touring tires this week and the problem is fixed. I love this little car.jrag
