I've got a 2004 AWD Lava Vibe with the factory single CD head unit and the Moons & Tunes package. When I bought it off the lot, my dealer told me that they could easily add XM to it. Now they tell me that I can't add XM to it, but if I had ordered a Vibe, they could have factory installed XM. Before it is suggested, I really don't wish to change to an aftermarket head unit or have a dash mounted XM unit.Does anyone know what I need to buy from Pontiac or other source to get the factory head to use XM? Is there a part number from Pontiac for the XM head that I can order and either install myself or have the dealer install? One dealer told me that Delphi is coming out with an aftermarket head replacement kit that looks "JUST LIKE" the regular Pontiac radios (since Delphi makes them anyhow). He says this is due out in May 2004, but has no real information on it.Does anyone know if this is true and/or has anyone else added XM aftermarket with the factory head and no dash mounted XM unit (Skyfi, etc.)? If you have factory installed XM, what stereo do you have? Single Disc, 6-disc, NavDVD?Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.PD2HAK - 2004 AWD Lava Vibe
That's correct, XM tied into the headunit directly is a FACTORY ONLY option. There are NO dealers that can install the XM unit that would come with the car. They can order a replacement for a malfunctioning unit, but they can't add the XM option after it's out of the factory. There is a version of XM that'll work with the commander tuner called XM Direct. This is supposed to interface directly with factory headunits. However, I don't know if it'll work with the stock radio in the Vibe or not, as it hasn't been released yet, XM is being fairly tightlipped about compatibility. As of right now, there's no way to add XM to your car without buying a new headunit, or trying to convince someone with XM preinstalled to give up their unit (if that'd even work..) Sorry..But welcome to GenVibe, and isn't that Lava bright?
