According to edmunds, the Vibe rebate has been upped to $2000 in the US good until 01/02/2003. So for those of us who have not yet purchased the deals are getting better.

Whether the cash back is a better deal then the low/zero interest financing depends on what kind of rate you can get outside of the dealership. My advice is to use a loan calculator and play with some numbers. I think http://www.gmbuypower.com has one. Try figuring out what your monthly payment would be at list price with 0% dealer financing and then try list price less $2000 with whatever interest rate you can secure from your bank. I just purchased one a week ago with the $1500 rebate. Anyone heard of a way of getting the $500 from Pontiac? You feel like a fool for rushing into the buying before the end of October. Most reputable retail outlets would credit you of the price drops within 30 days. My dealer already told me NO WAY! Thanks Pontiac.
The local newspaper just did a piece on a scam ring that was broken up in the Pacific Northwest (of the US). They were importing used Canadian fleet vehicles and, when changing the speedometers/odometers from metric to english, were rolling off a few thousand miles. So you can import a car but you can't import the speedometer? Sounds like the problem with doing a cross border purchase of a new Vibe probably has a lot to do with the legally-mandated equipment differences. Like why is much of the instrument warning light symbology different between US and Canadian Vibes? And why don't the US Vibes get the windshield washer "low fluid" warning light that the Canadian Vibes come with?
I'm in the same boat; bought mine last Thursday. I should've known, as it seemed like the dealer knew and was trying to ease the transition into the higher rebate - they offered an extra $250 dealer cash on everything sold on the 30th and 31st of Oct. (so, I'm only out $250).
I had a similar situation, but I took the 0% for five years, which worked out better for me after running the numbers. Even if I waited and took the $2000, I would have had to get an outside finance rate around 4.5-5% to be equal to the deal I signed Oct. 30. If I would have put more down, it would have been a different story. As for the dealer acting like he knew of higher incentives around the corner, dealers will go to their graves insisting that they don't know what the next round of incentives will be until the moment they are announced. Being an extremely cynical individual, I find this hard to believe, but considering the variety and number of dealers that have told me this, it might be true or one of the best kept secrets in vehicle sales.
