Can anyone help me w/ microsoft outlook

Post by philndz »

I have set it up for an email address.....now the mail in this account needs to be read by myself and my business partner in another location....it seems that if one of clicks send/recieve and gets the incoming mail.....then those messages are never accessible and dont even show up from the other location. so if my partner recieves the mail for the day before i can then when i sign on and recieve i will think there is no mail for the day.i read something that said IMAP server accounts dont do this and my email account can work as imap or pop3 so we both set up the same account but on an IMAP address this time.....but it still does the same thing....any outlook buffs here?thanks for the help-Phil

well I fixed the problem....sort of....i cant fix it in outlook but in outlook express i figured it out....i selected "leave mail on server"the problem is that now if my partner takes care of a customer and replies to their email then i may log on later and see the same customer email and then reply to them also....so they will get both my reply and my partners.....surely this is not how business is done????

What you and your partner should do is, when replying to a customer, include the e-mail address of yourselves in the BCC field, so when the reply goes to the customer, it will also come back to your Inbox so the opposing partner knows a reply has been sent! Inefficent, perhaps. But it should fix your problems!

My pleasure! Also, if you have it set up as an imap system, you can right click on a message you read and "mark as unread" and it SHOULD show up as new on the other partner's machine. That way, if you read a message, but don't want to, or can't, reply to it, you mark it as new and it will show up as unread on his machine.Try it with a test message first, though, to be sure it works. Don't rely on my information.

In Outlook 2003, it's Tools ->Email Accounts -> View or change (next) ->highlight the desired account -> Change -> More Settings ... -> Advanced tab

In Outlook 2000, you access that setting this way:tools>accounts>(select account)>properties>(advanced)>under "delivery" select "leave a copy of messages on server"I agree on the BCC thing, that's the only way I can think of to let someone else know that you took care of the message.
