GTP motor in Vibe?????

Post by dcyco1 »

Has anyone ever thought of transplanting GTP motor in the Vibe. They already do this to Cavaliers so I am wondering if this could be done. I know it would be tight but if it fits, it could be made to work. I would think this would be a cheaper option in the long run compared to a turbo setup.Just wondering......

If you are refferring to the Grand Prix GTP, no. The GTP uses a Supercharged 3800 SFI V6 that takes up a lot of real estate under the hood. The Vibe barely has enough room for a supercharged 1ZZHE 1.8 L4 that is offered. I am sure with enough cutting and welding and tens of thousands of dollars, perhaps... but not worth the trouble IMO.

Well,I dunno. If you compare the two side by side, it could probably be done with a little fabrication. And a lot of computer work. However, the power gains may or may not outweigh the added weight of the bigger engine.

And the way that the weight is located will make the Vibe handle very different I would think. It would require suspension work as well, and still may never be quite right (without getting into major bucks anyway).
