Stafford Fabrication has Turboed a 2zz

Post by drummerdude »

I sent an email to Stafford Fabricators about them turbo charging the 2zz engine. and here is my email and their response.Me:Stafford Fabrication,I'm interested in purchasing your turbo kit for my 2003 pontiac vibe GT (2zz-fe), I have some concerns regarding your products.1. Have you installed and tested this kit on the Vibe GT/Matrix XRS?2. The compression ratio on the 2zz engine is 11.5:1, which is too high to force feed/turbo/supercharge. Do you include low compression pistons/rods in your kit?3. Is there any kind of warranty on your product and if so, what are the terms and conditions?4. As far as the ECU goes, do you have a "Plug and Play ECU" that you provide with the kit?5. If you haven't done any installs on a GT/XRS, I would be interested in you using my car as a "prototype". I've talked to a member of genvibe.com who has your turbo on his base vibe, and he swears by your company. I'm currently located in the Dallas area but I am willing to travel for the install/testing.Stafford Fabrication:We have the Vibe GT with the 2zz scheduled to come in for prototyping in about 4 weeks. We have already done the 2zz motor in a celica GTS, so the prototyping should not take very long. The motor takes to boost rather well. Even though it is a high compression motor, we have been running 8 psi on the GTS without pulling out any timing, and running it on 91 octane pump gas.Our kits have a 3 year warantee on all manufactured parts, and a 1 year warantee on the turbo. We will replace the turbo manifold if it breaks as long as you did not use any header wrap on it.Right now, we use a piggyback signal conditioner that allows us to fine tune the fuel curve. We developed a fuel system for the non-return line cars that has proven to work very well. The piggyback just allows you to add or remove fuel wherever you feel it is necessary.I also sent this reply and will post the info they send when I receive it from them.Me again:Would the new "Unichip" be able to replace the piggyback system you use?

The kit is $3299.99 I think on a GT celica it was making I think 215HP and on a XR/Vibe not sure wich one was 205HP not bad. I wold go with turbo over supercharger thats 35HP more than SC does their price include instalation though?

The turbo kit can provide you with a mild 4 psi for daily driving on your stock motor (this is most people here) , or provide you with an insane 18 psi for highly modified race cars (this is not everyone) so would expect 220's.XR Matrix:Dyno tested to 205 whp on 6 psi, this gives more than enough power to give anyone a grin

Well according to the website its available fot the GT here see for yourself. it says 2001+ Vibe GThttp://www.staffordfabrication...u=305It appears to be the same kit as the Vibe/Matrix (base/XR) the only difference that I see is that the XR is the only one that has been put on a dyno.

drool.... drool... drool.... man, but $3300 is a lot to dish out on my vibe. i've already spent about $4K on a/m parts already.... so, that's another big chunk. plus, would REALLY like to pay off bills so i can move out.... guess it'll have to wait until AFTER my warranty is gone.

Its celica gt , and celica gt-s; then Vibe and Vibe gt, but the Vibe GT is the 2zz , and the Celica gt is the 1zz...it is confusing.

You would need to build your motor, though, to do this. They going to have some more hard #'s out when they take the 2zz Celica GT-S to a Dyno Shoot Out in a couple of weeks

I am interested though but I think I will try to get the turbo after my warranty is expired since I only had the car for about 2 1/2 months... Dont want to break anything (yet) and not be covered under the warranty.

It would be nice if this was available to us folks up North for the same price, shipping the turbo out here would break alot of our banks...not to mention my marriage, considering that SF has an operational one it's ashame that no one in Canada offers something simular.

For all of you worried about your warranty being cancelled due to the addition of a turbo I have the solution: Pay for a turbo to put in my non-warrantied Vibe and I'll make the personal sacrifice of having boost in my car. Everybodies happy (Except the Hondas in Pensacola )

You guys sure about the 350 hp thing, I think that might be what the turbo is capable at most in a different engine because other than the fact that it is in the same kit as the thing for the vibe it doesn't say 350 hp from the 2zz engine

It doesn't matter, both tranny's lose there final gear at about 270HP. Lots to do if want to go past 250HP reliabley. The 2zz motor will handle this power without mods.
