I really like the looks of the factory installed sub woofer in the new vibe.I think I might hook one up and install it the same way if i can find a wiring diagram to hook up the sub. does anyone know how it is hooked up to the amp under the passenger seat on a moons and tune package. I guess what i really want to know is if I can splice into any speaker wires on the amp or does it have its own hook up?
Where did you find info about this sub?I can't find any reference to it on either GM USA or GM Canada's websites....I know Toyota offers one in the Matrix's..... is that the one you mean?

Picture: here and hereGeneral Info: hereI know the '05 Sub is not plug-and-play with the 03/04 - some splicing of sorts would be required. I believe the 05 amp is made to have output for the optional sub. I also believe (from what I was told) if you order the sub from GM, you will receive the new paneling, subwoofer, and some wiring altogether as one - I don't think it can be purchased in individual pieces (paneling only, etc.).
I like the look....I bet that would be hard to "aftermarket" that look. Just my thoughts. Let us know what you come up with, If anyone can do it, it will be you Scherry!
‘03 Vibe with 317k and still going.............................
The best way to do it would be to fiberglass an enclosure that would fit in the space available- This would be very difficult to use if you are new to making fiber glass enclosures- a good car audio shop would be able to hook ya up- but it will cost a TON of money- probobly at least $400 and most likely more just for them to make the enclosure- not including the amp, sub and wiring you would need. You would need to hook up an amp and run its own power to it along with a ground RCA's and a remote wire- the only thing you could tap into the stock speakers for is for the RCA's with an RCA converter box

Maybe if we all chip in and buy it, a fiberglass shop could make copies of it. The only time consuming thing about the fiberglass is getting the shape and if we had this one it could be remade really easily....How big is the woofer, what kind is it and how much space are we giving up?

I would love to see behind the panel.GM isnt going foot the bill (assembly wise)to put a fiberglass enclosure behind the panel. its going to be a cheaper setup.
Maybe you're not following me. If we all chip in for someone to buy the GM subwoofer, then that person can bring the original to a shop that will use the original to make a custom fiberglass enclosure...Right ? you follow?

I do not think you can jsut go out and but the factory sub- It is not even out yet- And either way, having the original or not- It will still cost a lot of money to get fiberglass done

Ohhh I get you. this is for the '05 model they won't have them yet. the car in the picture was probably a pilot/show model. not in prodution yet. Nsimkins and for the panel, hey that nifty roto-zip I got for x-mas cuts great holes. LOL heck i even have the T/G panel that cracked on me maybe I could mount a sub in the T/G. HMMMM...
I am in the process of building a custom box for the vibe- it is not as sleek looking as the one in the 05 pics- but i think it will lokk reallyu good- as soon as it is done having vynal put on I will get pics

Well, I actually haven't started it but I'm going to undertake making a fiberglass enclosure that will fit against the side. Don't know how it will turn out, but it will be great if it works. Can't wait to see your photos.

With my system I modified the back of the hatch to make it look pretty slick. I had to install two 1 farad power capaciters, and I found the niftiest place I could for them. In the back corners of each side there's a small panel you can take off. I have them installed in there with digital readouts for each one, and a 4" red neon on each side of each power cap. One of the panels I had cut out into the Pontiac symbol, the other one I had cut out into a diamond shape, then carpeted the rest of the panel. It looks quite good and allows you to see the power cap and neon glow. I can get pictures of it taken if anyone would like
I'm interested in pics...there was a guy on Matrixvibe.net that was going to do it but I couldn't get a hold of him(never answered his e-mail) .Anyways pics would be cost, followed by maybe a price estimate?

If everyone is really interested- I can get a quote froma couple of places: The actual car audio store that I go to, and from a friend that is really good in making fiberglass boxes. The price would vary on how many they would make- the air space that is needed, if the facory pannel stays in place or if a replacement is made, anyway it is made it is going to be expensive. When I worked as an insaler at a car audio store one of the guys I worked with made a box for a Denali- he sold 3 of them and they all went for $700 - Also the problem is I am here in MI- so I doubt we would get more than one or two made.

I just went to the MTX website- They do not make an enclosure for a Vibe- If you were emailing crutchfield to see about one getting made you will need to talk to MTX not crutchfield. JL audio also makes custom fit enclosures-...but not for the Vibe

I wouldn't mind building an enclosure into the tailgate..but i'd have to upgrade the pistons in the supports.. Even if it was fiberglass..

Are you speaking of looking for a premade custom box for a matrix?Because I did look at several comapnies for that- most custom boxes made by companies are made for cars that could not otherwise fit a normal size box- I doubt one would get made for the Vibe or Trix

If we could get an enclosure from an 05 which I know is impossible right now I could make a mold for it, which is the hardest part and I would be able to spit them out rather quickly out of anything really, carbon fiber, fiberglass, gelcoat. If anyone one founds out anything let me know and I could try and get started on it.

I've been thinking that it would be really cool to take out everything from the spare tire compartment and have it dynomatted. Then have a pair of subs and the amp custom built into that space, then replace the plasic floor that lifts up with a piece of plexiglass that is cut to fit where that plastic lid was. You could put neons down in there and it would look b/a when looking through the plexiglass. That way you'd have a full system in there and still have all the cargo capacity. If you needed to haul stuff around, you don't have to disconnect a bunch of wires and pull the box out of the back. If there's enough volume in that space for a custom enclosure that holds 2 subs, that would be great!

I've thought of something similar... you might only be able to fit two 10"s though, especially if you want the floor to be flat in the back. They might have to be pretty small 10"s too, like the Sony's..I've only eyeballed it though, no measurements, so I might be wrong..I still think it'd be pretty kickass to fit a couple of subs into the rear hatch.. Put the amp underneath the floor next to the sub, and hide the speaker wires with the rest of the wiring going to the hatch. You can open it and someone would be like.. "Dude, I heard so much bass! How do you do that!"

My Friends and I did something simmiliar to a Ford Focus- It only has one 12- but it looks tight- we took out all of the spare tire stuff- then built a box to fit in there and then put mirrored plexi glass over the top- I will try and get a pic of it this weekend

If you guys take out all of the spare tier stuff, what do you do in case of a flat?
