VIBE Orders: A word of CAUTION

Post by 1234 »

A word of CAUTION . . . ( GM CANADA)Most of us with a Vibe order, if not all of us, have been directly effected by GM production problems causing substantial delivery delays. You have a contract with your GM dealership. Know your rights and exercise them accordingly or you maybe in for a surprise! Trust me, your GM dealership is looking out for their best interests; NOT YOURS.Examples:Your dealership may attempt to reduce your trade in value. Your trade-in appraisal value was established when you signed the sales contract for your factory order. Since your order has been delayed, it would be in their best interest to change the contact by devaluing the amount of your trade, thus increasing your purchase price. Remember if you have your vehicle reassessed today, it will be at todays Black Book, (less than what it was worth when you signed and entered into a contract with your dealership). Your are the one who has been inconvenienced by their production problems, you should be compensated, NOT penalized. This is a GM issue to be resolved between GM and their GM Dealerships. If you are financing this purchase (not leasing) through GMAC, your rate and terms (subject to credit approval) are stated on your contract. Please note: GMAC changes their rate programs every few months. The delay of your Vibe could mean when you finally take delivery, a higher interest rate maybe in effect. If this happens, don't pay a higher rate. Pay no more than what is on your contract. This is an issue between your GM dealership and their GM financial network, GMAC.You have legal rights, and the Consumer Protection Act on your side.At this time I will not give the name of my dealership as legal action is pending.Comments and experience which may help others are welcome. Please specify CANADA or USA.Good Luck to all.

You are lucky to have the rights you talk about in Canada. In Massachusetts, the purchase contract specificly addresses the reapraisal of trades and allows it. (Last car bought was a 4/95 revision date on the purchase contract). Also here in the US, GM Incentives are at the time of delivery. So if a program ends, its over. (Our purchase contracts do not even have spaces for financing terms).

I am unsure of Canadian law, but I can tell you that here a vehicles trade value, factory rebates, and interest rate incentives are all determined at the time sale/delivery. It would be nice if we could do it the way you describe( I waited 10 months for my 1999 Formula WS6 1LE).Saadallah
