I want to add some hp and torque to my base vibe. I was thinking of getting an Injen CAI (Q: #1: which one do i want?) but I was reading on the bottom of the info page and it says something like having to REMOVE the filter in wet conditions because it is possible for water to get in your engine. (Q: #2: ummm, do people reall remove them?? I mean on an everyday driving car?) OK, about the chip... my uncle was saying something about changing the computer chip in some vehicles will also increase hp and torque. Has anyone heard about this? Has anyone tried it? Cost on something like that? I'm looking to spend just $500 on upgrades for now. What is recommended?? Thanks!

First off, Hi! Second, I have the Injen and have driven nearly 4000 miles in Montana winter on the highways. I've not removed my intake and have had absolutely no trouble at all with mine. It barely even gets wet. The one time you'd have to worry about it is if you live in an area that is prone to floods when it rains. You have to completely submerge the filter in water to have a problem. That translates to 6+ inches of water. If this would be a concern, you just have to switch back to the stock intake during the wet season. It's a lot of work to do, but it can be done. The alternative would be to go with a short-ram style intake. As for the chip, I'll let someone else answer that. One of our members, TRDVibe has one installed. She'll have some good info for you there.

you can also install a bypass valve, which will prevent the filter from drawing in water if you want to run year round with the full CAI.

i have a GT w/ TRD CAI and a Unichip. My color scheme however is red, and so i love the TRD candy apple red! between the 2 engine mods, i really don't know what hp or torque increase i have. i can def feel a big difference when i put my foot on the gas. really you're best bet if you want torque and hp is the s/c for the base. plus, if you only want to spend like $500, then you should go w/ a CAI/exhaust combo from pttuning or something.... just my thots tho.
I believe that the flowmaster exhaust gives you a 8hp increase. Not sure about increase from the intake. I read it was 12hp increase on a GT not sure about a base. So you should go witht eh combo from Ptuning.com.
