I thought the maximum the Vibe could tow was 1500lbs - but I could be mistaken. I think that was the number I remember seeing on the GM website when I was researching...

It gives you all the info you need in the manual:Quote »If You Do Decide To Pull A TrailerIf you do, here are some important points:• There are many different laws, including speed limitrestrictions, having to do with trailering. Make sureyour rig will be legal, not only where you live butalso where you’ll be driving. A good source for thisinformation can be state or provincial police.• Consider using a sway control. You can ask a hitchdealer about sway controls.• Don’t tow a trailer at all during the first 1,000 miles(1 600 km) your new vehicle is driven. Your engine, axle or other parts could be damaged.• Then, during the first 500 miles (800 km) that youtow a trailer, don’t drive over 50 mph (80 km/h) anddon’t make starts at full throttle. This helps yourengine and other parts of your vehicle wear in at theheavier loads.• Obey speed limit restrictions when towing a trailer.Don’t drive faster than the maximum posted speedfor trailers, or no more than 55 mph (90 km/h), tosave wear on your vehicle’s parts.Three important considerations have to do with weight:• the weight of the trailer,• the weight of the trailer tongue• and the total weight on your vehicle’s tires.Weight of the TrailerHow heavy can a trailer safely be?It should never weigh more than 1,500 lbs. (680 kg).But even that can be too heavy. It depends on how you plan to use your rig. Forexample, speed, altitude, road grades, outsidetemperature and how much your vehicle is used to pull atrailer are all important. And, it can also depend on anyspecial equipment that you have on your vehicle. You can ask your dealer for our trailering information oradvice, or you can write us at:Pontiac-GMC Customer Assistance CenterP.O. yeah, I thought about getting a tent trailer too, but couldn't find one under 1200 pds - and once it's loaded with stuff - too heavy for the Vibe!I guess I'm still tenting for now!

Well -- there is one loophole you could hope for...The 1500 pound towing limit is for a standard, no brakes trailer. However, if it's got electric brakes, and the tongue wieght is less that 150 pounds, you CAN tow a little heavier. Just won't be that great on the transmission, so you'd have to take it careful.Just so you know.....
