Sales Figures updated for Vibe

Post by NSimkins »

Year-end sales figures have been released for the Vibe. See the "News" section (linked below) for full details:http://www.genvibe.com/html/news/headlines.shtmlBesides the sales figures, yes, those News articles are a little dated. I'll work on that.

October 2003 was the first 2000 incentive on the Vibe, that is probably why they sold more at the end of last year.

Does anyone know what the sales break down between the different models is? BASE, AWD, GT. I have been looking around for a GT and most dealers seem to just have a few.

I think there is still a very long waiting list ( at least in Canada ) so why advertise the car and then tell people "oh yeah you'll get it in 9 months" LOLI can see them now running to buy Trixes and Mazda3's after that.Did that make sense? Man I am sooooo tired

You sure did! The first time I wanted to buy the Vibe in 2002 I still remember my wifes' face when the dealer told us 6-8 months! Went back in February of 2003 and got it in July of 2003 and that was after my dealer made a trade with a dealership in Ontario!Very very lucky girl indeed

I went online and punched in the Vibe with options, color and whatnot that I wanted. The site searched various dealers within a certain radius of me and within seconds I had found it. Told my dealer where it was and I had it within a day or so. All Pontiac salesmen can do this from their computer. Tell him/her what you want and stay right there while they search for it. I gotta say it sure beats waiting for weeks or months.

Everytime I go by a Pontiac dealer they have 5, 6, 7, 8 or more that are just in the back of the lot. Maybe with the incentatives they know they can't make as much of of them then other cars, and they use the Vibe as a last resort sale. Trading cars in the past year has gotten so ridiculous with dealerships I gave up, They can keep their new cars and watch their sales figures go down.

Nice chart, joatmon! If GM's smart (must...resist...sarchasm!), they'll hype the rising gas prices as a reason to consider the Vibe. Here in Houston, we've got some pretty good deals going. Beck&Masten (in NW Houston) has about a dozen Vibes in the lot; a few priced @ $13,995 (before GM Conquest rebate). Lawrence Marshall (in South Houston) is knocking $6000* off MSRP on all their stock, plus an extra $1000 on early weekend hours (*includes $2000 GM and $1000 Conquest).

I sell cars in Illinois, Toyota, Pontiac, jeep and GMC. I sold a TON of vibes last month.I drive a Vibe for free as a demo now. I get to drive Vibes and Matrixes all the time but I am buying my own Vibe (IF I CAN EVER FIND ONE ANYWHERE WITH THE EQUIPMENT I AM LOOKING FOR)Huge rebates really moved units. Three things I have observed:1. Many buyers are not familiar with the vibe, or matrix is for that matter.2. The Mazda 3s is a serious competition in this new Sport Wagon class, especially with younger buyers.3. Gas prices have changed buyers priority and any car that gets over 30 MPG is getting looks it might not have before.Once I educate buyers about the affordability, with the rebates and the economy, the car sells itself, but most Vibe Buyers are 30-40 something's who came in looking for a corolla. I did have a 25 yr old stereo installer trade his Mod Civic in for a Silver base w/Sport pkg., but his buddy is getting a Mazda 3s.It seems to me that the Vibe has not connected with the young folks, and the older buyers like the roominess, feul economy and price, once the are shown and demoed in a vibe. The good news is that I am starting to see younger buyers come in looking for the Vibe now.Just some random thoughts!

Had to factory order mine. No base vibes with ABS and side air bags in salsa or neptune anywhere in Canada. Really, though, better off to FO in many parts of Canada because the shipping from another dealership can eat any margin for the dealer and give them no room to move on the price. Just wish my local dealer had one in stock

If I read the chart correctly, five of the 12 months of 2004 recorded the highest monthly Vibe sales yet: April, May, June, July, and September. My only question is: Was it cash/financing incentives, or the '05 restyle helping to move units off the lot? ('05's first appeared at my local dealership in mid May 2004.)

The internet manager at our Pontiac store told me that he had more inquiries and sales on Vibe's than he ever had, maybe more than every other month of the year combined....I wonder if it has anything to do with the Vibe being GM's highest fuel mileage vehicle (base 5 speed)?

News Article of InterestAPU.S. Auto Sales Fall Sharply in OctoberTuesday November 1, 7:25 pm ET By Dee-Ann Durbin, AP Auto Writer General Motors, Ford, Nissan Report Drop in Oct. Auto Sales Due to Hurricanes, High Gas Prices DETROIT (AP) -- U.S. auto sales fell sharply in October, dampened by hurricanes, fidgety consumers and high gas prices. Demand was down after a summer of heavily hyped discounts, and automakers warned that they don't expect an upswing in November.General Motors, Ford and Nissan reported big declines Tuesday, while Toyota and Honda edged up and DaimlerChrysler's sales were flat. Sport utility vehicles took the biggest hit across all makers. Sales of the Ford Explorer, Lincoln Navigator, GMC Yukon, Hummer H2 and Toyota Land Cruiser were all down 50 percent or more.October sales were down 11 percent industrywide. The seasonally adjusted annual sales rate was 14.7 million vehicles, indicating what sales would be for the full year if they remained at the same pace for all 12 months, according to Autodata Corp. Full-year sales for 2004 were 17 million.DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group responded by putting a $1,000 incentive on all 2005 and 2006 vehicles. No other automaker made a similar announcement, although GM said it would remain competitive on incentives."We've got a consumer out there where the confidence levels have been slipping and they're concerned about the monthly budget," said Gary Dilts, Chrysler's senior vice president of sales."We feel the need to put some sort of incentive out there that answers the question, 'Why buy now?'" he said.General Motors Corp., the world's biggest automaker, said its U.S. sales fell 22.7 percent in October from a year ago, led by a 30.3 percent decline in sales of trucks and SUVs. GM's car sales fell 10.6 percent for the month. Overall, GM's sales fell 2.7 percent for the first 10 months of the year.Paul Ballew, GM's executive director of market and industry analysis, said it was the industry's worst month since 1998. But he said October must be viewed in the context of the summer sales blitz, which was fueled by U.S. automakers' employee-discount incentives. This year is still on track to be the second or third best in history for U.S. auto sales, Ballew said.Meanwhile, GM's debt was slashed deeper into "junk" territory Tuesday after Moody's Investors Service lowered its long-term rating due to uncertainty about the company's massive restructuring.Ford Motor Co.'s U.S. sales fell 23 percent in October from a year ago. Sales of Ford, Lincoln and Mercury trucks and SUVs fell 30 percent compared to last October, while car sales slipped 3.7 percent. Ford's popular F-series truck saw sales fall 32 percent."October wasn't a very good month for anybody," said George Pipas, Ford's U.S. sales analysis manager. "It was pretty much weak from the start and showed little improvement as the weeks progressed."Ford said its new Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr midsize sedans were notable exceptions, exceeding Ford's expectations in their first month in dealerships. Pipas said Ford expected to sell 2,700 Fusion sedans in October but sold more than 4,000. Ford's car sales rose 7 percent for the year, but overall sales fell nearly 3 percent.Chrysler Group said its car sales rose a whopping 37 percent, and the Dodge Stratus sedan had its best October in nearly 10 years. But truck and SUV sales fell 9.5 percent and Chrysler's overall sales were flat for the month. Chrysler's sales were up 6.9 percent for the first 10 months of the year.Dilts said Chrysler's retail sales fell by double digits but were propped up by fleet sales to corporations. He said Chrysler's fleet business accelerated with the launch of the LX vehicle line, which includes the Chrysler 300 sedan and Dodge Charger. The Jeep Grand Cherokee and minivans were also big sellers to corporate fleets."That's very good business for us. That's not a business we have been in," Dilts said.U.S. automakers ended employee-discount programs -- which let consumers pay the employee price -- in the first week of October. They were expecting some payback after phenomenal sales this summer. If you look at the last three months, sales beat all previous years.I think a lot of folks stopped shopping after the GM Employee Discounts ended. Too bad; I think that was overhyped.

Heck, with the way we're working, you'd never guess sales were down. Well, that will give us a while to catch up. We can't make much more than 7000 units a month. We've even got two Saturdays (yes, six day weeks) scheduled every month through April. With gas prices the way they are, seems like Toyota and GM are expecting sales to stay strong for a while.

It was $2,003 in 2003; ought to be $2,006 in 2006.

That's 84,000 a year capacity. 2005 sales might hit 68,000 or approx 80% of capacity. Like the Cheetos commercial - keep on buying 'em, we'll make more.
