2 or 4 Channel amp?

I have a 800 watt American Legacy (I know not best but free) and I want to replace it with a better amp but whats the difference between a 2 channel and a 4 channel? Whats better for 2 12in subs? Im keeping the stock 200 amp and replacing the stock speakers but what amp do I get for the subs? What brand amps do any of you recommend?

If it's for subs, you want a "D-class" or "Monoblock" amplifier. (Same thing).Basically, these are amps that are designed to work with subs. You can use a 4 channel or a 2 channel, but you're not going to get the same power, efficiency, or sound.MTX makes great Mono amps, as well as Audiobahn, Kicker, JL Audio, and a few others.Many will say Rockford Fosgate, but unless you can find one of their sub amps from about five years ago, i'd avoid them nowadays. I've heard that their quality has been going down lately. Same with Sony (only the mono amps, the 4 channels are still fairly good)Everyone has their own preferences... But i'll tell you, skimping out on the amp isn't gonna help you much.Also, what subs in particular? It's best to match one to the other. If you have an amp, find subs that'll work best with it. If you have subs, pair it up with the right amp. Just let us know what you've got, or what you wanna spend, and we'll let you know what we think!

Alright, from what I can gather from the MA Audio site, those are probably either 250W or 300W RMS. Don't look at the Peak numbers, you need to match up the RMS..We also need to know if they're single, or dual voice coil. If you don't know what that means, basically, a single voice coil sub will have one set of connectors on the back, a dual voice coil will have two sets. And that's on the sub, not on the back of the box.. From the picture I can't tell exactly which one it is, as they seem to have changed the coloring in their more recent models..As for the $400, that should be plenty, depending on if they're single or dual voice coil..

well not sure if single or not ill take 1 out of the box and take a pic and post it. Thanks for your patience im not good at this stereo stuff. I messed up my last car trying to hook up the stereo I fried something and would turn the car off every 15 min or so.

Looks like you have something similar to the MA 1250W. It's 250W RMS, and single voice coil.You can keep both subs, keep in mind, the amp will change depending on if you want only one or both.If you keep both, here are a few reccomendations:MTX Thunder 421D @ Circuit CityKicker KX400.1Kenwood KAC-8151DIf you use both speakers, you want to look at the ratings "350W RMS @ 2 Ohms". Make sure you also get the right size power cable for it. You want at least 8 guage to run to the battery, and ground the amp to the nearest metal. And don't worry about bothering, just happy to help!

My opinion, for a sub, get an amp with the less channel you need.If you want to push 2 speaker of 4 ohms, get a mono amp who can take 2 ohms output and put speakers in parallele.I've seen some lack of power on 4 channel amps.At worst, get a 2 channels amp and drive your speakers separatly.I do not recommande 4 channels amp. for subs.Mono or stereo are the way to go.
