Canadian badge engineering?

Post by Robert G »

From http://www.thecarconnection.com Canada Charts A Different CourseA year after celebrating its 100th anniversary in the U.S., Ford is now celebrating its Canadian centennial. Over the past century, the entire U.S. and Canadian auto markets have, largely on the whole, run in sync. Suddenly, however, that seems to be changing, as was hard to miss at the 2004 Toronto Motor Show. In past years, automakers simply introduced the same models they'd already shown in the States. This time 'round, the floors of the Toronto convention center are filled with models not available south of the border. There's the Nissan X-Trail crossover, as well as Jaguar's X-Type wagon, both debuting this week, as did the Pontiac Pursuit, which shares General Motors' Delta platform with the new Chevrolet Cobalt, sold in both Canada and the U.S. Toyota recently launched a hatchback version of its youth-oriented Echo, while Kia premiered the Tuner, a sporty version of its entry-priced Rio model.
