sub install to factory radio with remote amp level control knob

Post by gogoputter »

I just purchased a 2003 vibe gt with the moon and tunes. I want to install a sub and an alpine, 5 channel amp mrv-f-450 to the stock radio. I want to isolate the sub with a gain knob. Alpine makes two such controls the rux 4180 and the rux 4280 but I can find nothing that indicates one of these controls will actually work with the mrv-f-450. Anyone done this or know how to do it? Anyone done this with a different brand of amp and gain knob? Any help is appreciated.

Don't know about the Alpines, but I have a Lightning Audio B2.350.1 with a gain control that I put in the lefthand pocket on the dash...

does this mean that you only added an amp because you added a sub to the stock unit ? You didn't add an extra amp for the other 6 speakers ?

I have two amps, yes.Lightning Audio B2.350.1 for the two Sony 10" Subs in the back.JL Audio 300/4 4 ch amp for the door speakers. I also have two pairs of component speakers. Polk MM6 in the front, Polk ex3560's in the rear. But the amp control knob only goes to the Lightning Audio so I have independant control over the subs. The amp for the other speakers is simply controlled by the audio output of the headunit (navigation system in my case)

did you have this installed or did you do the instal yourself ?I am really concerned about the sound quality with the factory head unit. I prefer the high and mid range clarity with really tight base. Are you able to get this with your set up ?

New headunits are always fun, and they will add to your sound, but the best addition for sound would be amplifiers. Having a seperate amplifier for the door speakers, and adding a subwoofer, will increase the clarity of your sound quite a bit.Having an amplifier for the door speakers with variable crossovers is another good thing, because you can cut off the lower frequencies which would be better held by the amplifiers. And yes, I put mine in myself.
