Post by ArcsVibe »

Hello audio experts, need your help here. Just purchased a 10" Pioneer sub with the following specs:* 400 Watts Max * Nominal Power: 120 watts * 12" Speaker * Impedence: 4 ohms * Sensitivity: 90db * Frequency Response: 20-4500 Hz * 4 Layer Long Voice Coil * IMPP cone * For Sealed Enclosures ONLY My question is what wattage of amplifier do I need to power this sub? And which amplifier do you suggest? Here is a pic of the sub. As aways I thank everyone for their help!!

ok...one. what are you trying to accopmlish? Tons of bass? I mean one is great on space. Just trying to figure out what you want as a result! If you only have one i would go 250. Rockford-Fostgate carries a punch-250 which i have, and it works good with one, i also have a sony (52X4) too. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5184 Follow Sub-Vibe-R installing step-by-step http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=2524 Good Luck. You don't want to go too high above nominal. 200 watt Mono-block (class D) amplifier will be about best. 250 if you have a 2 channel amplifier.Rockford, as far as they go, unless you find an older model, is kinda not a great thing. Infinity, Alpine, MTX, will give you really great tight bass, but make sure you match the amp to the nominal RMS.I can't think right now..so don't mind me..

I've also heard good things about infinity, they seem to make good products. As far as the rockford-fosgate amp, yes my is older...

As far as the rockford-fosgate amp, yes my is older...Obviously I wasn't thinking, I thought you were talking about Rockford subs. But yes, if you find an older (like, five years older) Rockford Punch amp, those things rule the free world. Anything newer kinda blows...Seriously though, with the power range that speaker runs at, you don't need much. Anything stated to run 200w at 4 Ohm will do more than enough to it. You can even bridge a 2 channel amp to save some money. My first subs were Pioneers, they were pretty good... You'll see though, after a while you might decide you want something a little heftier..

The only affordable company I know rating their amp in RMS power is JL Audio.MTX give you a good quality/price ratio and you can get one at Future Shop. If you want to put little more money on a amp, I would suggest you JL Audio. UNfortunatly, the smallest amp push a 250W rms, but you can decrease the gain to fit you sub.Sealed enclosure will give you a smaller box and a tighter bass. And the Pioneer IMPP sub are some of the best sub ever made for the price/quality ratio.

Of course, if he doesn't turn it up to distortion, he won't have a problem..

If you need help to install you amp, just ask and we can take an appointement...Just to advise you, I do not really like install stuff in a car when the car is outside and it is -20c... So it is prefered to be in an heated garage.

Beer and pizza sounds great...I have installed sub in around 10 cars up to now...It takes around 2-3 hours to do the job.
