OK, my cousins are in the process of moving up to alaska from Idaho. they are drivng up the alcan hwy and WERE towing a trailer behind their suburban. well, just outside Dawson Creek, they lost control and flipped the suburban. it's pretty much totaled and there's nothing left of the trailer. The closest "city" to them is Edmonton. What would you suggest they do? should they go back to Edmonton and try and rent a Uhaul truck or van from there? They also have their 2 cats and 2 dogs that they are driving up as well. Anyone have any suggestions at all is greatly appreciated. right now they are pretty much stuck in BFE and have no idea what to do. thanks for all your input...
Well, let them call their insurance agent and depending on their plan, their insurance company should make proper arrangements for them. Were they driving too fast or was it that windy that the Suburban flipped??? - uhm if it was wind, it must have been a lot since Suburban's don't flip very easily....

Dawson Creek is in BC -- it's mile 0 of that highway.I'm just looking at a map. They could back track to Ft. St. John. I know that there's services there. However, if they "continue forward" to Grande Prairie, that's probably their best bet. There's definitely stuff in GP (one of my fiance's groomsmen lives there, but he's pretty impossible to track down).Grande Praire is probably a couple hour drive (tops) from Dawson Creek.

Well Ft. St. John is only 47km (30 miles) from Dawson Creek and has a population of about 15,000. They could probably find most services there plus would still be heading in the right direction. Going back to the city of Grande Prairie is also an option since there's over 40,000 people thre and basically any service they could want. But that would be back tracking and it's a bit farther from Dawson Creek (about 130km - 80 miles). There is absolutely no need to go back to Edmonton, there will be uhaul services etc. in Grande Prairie if not Ft. St. John. They could call the Northern BC tourism association for more help: 1-800-663-8843
they are already working with their insurance co. basicly, with the wind and ice, pulling at 16' trailer, they lost control, spun out and flipped. because it's so cold there, -40F w/ wind chill, all of the uhaul diesel trucks are frozen and no one will unthaw one for them to move on. also, because they have their 4 pets with them, it also limits them to what they can and cannot do. right now, bart, my cousin, has his oldest son, 13 with him. his wife and other 4 kids are packing up the house and moving. they are flying up here feb 3. they might get here before he does!it sounds like grande prarie might be best since they have many more people there and most likely a lot more services to offer....

I thought they were going FROM Alaska...Let's just chalk it up to one of those days at work. The kind that make you leave screaming, come home & polish your resume, 'cause you're gonna need it.

lol. that's ok. i didn't even look on a map to check. but so far he's gotten a 14' uhaul truck that will be available, but then there's still the issue with the pets. it's a small cab inside, so they won't all go in there. plus, now the ins co not sure if they are going to total out their suburban or not. i understand it's in pretty bad shape. with a reconstructed vehicle, it may not be safe for the 5 kids....
