Toyota Scion XA

Post by redlava »

I was in Tampa this week for the Outback Bowl and happened to see a Scion XA and an XB on a lot. I got a pic of the XA, the XB was inside when I went to take the pics so I couldn't get it. The XA kinda reminds me of a Mini Cooper, Vibe love-child. Looks real nice in my opinion, I don't like the instrument pod in the center of the dash though.

Kind of funny you post about the Scion today. I was looking them over on their web page and reviews online last night. I WANT AN XB!!!!! I'd really like to see one in person. Too bad you can't get an XB with the 2zz motor.......

In http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5220, there are some pictures on page 2 that raseermon took I've seen the same center oriented dash in Toyota prius and echo. Not sure what the intended advantage is.

I saw your picture earlier, but now it appears its gone. There have been some image posting problems lately it seems (I've had some as well).

I saw a xa when I was shoppig today. Very cute and very small. Good run around car but too small for me. Much smaller than a Vibe. Might as well get a mini!

I mean no offense to anyone at all, but the Scion just has no appeal to me at all. It's like a smaller Element or something. When I was messing around in a Honda dealer the other week, I was looking at an Element in the showroom. The interior seemed really cheap and plain. My g/f caught me sitting in it and told me not to get any ideas. I told her not to worry. Now when I see one on the road, I point and say "ooh look, another new Uglament". But I guess these types of vehicles appeal to enough people for them to make more and more of them. If they are all that is on the market in the future, it looks like I'll be stuck driving around in classic cars.

those elements have rubber mats so that you can hose them out real easy...I guess i am just a sucker for squarry little cars...In the xb , there is more head room and legg room, both front and back, than the vibe...but not in the cargo area...it comes standard with abetter stereo than my moon n tune one, standard with abs, traction contrl, AC,power windows and doors, vvti but its only a 1.5......and yeah it looks like a 4 yr old drew the design...a box w/ 4 wheels!

Yeah, it's really the exterior that turns me off, though I don't really like the center gauge pod, either. Certainly is well equipped, though. But some things I'd rather not have. I can put in any stereo system that I want, I could get a much better quality head unit for less money than the one in my moon and tunes Vibe. The stereo isn't much of an issue for me. I'd rather do without the ABS also, it has almost caused me to wreck twice in my Vibe in the winter. I had traction control on my Mustang, thank God they put a button behind the shifter to shut it off because it was useless and made it so that the car would go nowhere in slippery conditions. Pontiac offered a rebate on the M/T package and power package that made all the options in those packages cost only about $200 in the end, so that was well worth it. The power output of the 1.5 is nowhere close to the Vibe GT. And I'd rather have a bit more cargo room, that was another big selling point to me. I've put it to good use many times already. The Vibe GT was just all around a much better fit for me I guess.

Today I went to the LA auto show and saw the new scion tc..will be released in June...It looks great, but i have no pics...it is not boxy..it sort of looks like a smaller toyota solara...it is sporty looking...It has all the standard features as the xa and xb...but it has vvti w/ a 2.4 160 hp motor, and will have an optional supercharger to put it over 200hp!..it seats 5 and has a huge moon roof and window in the roof..its broken into segments, but nearly covers the whole roof.they did not have the price yet, just ..somewhere under 20k....i will give it the big.. ...today was its debut in america..wish i took my camera today...I forgot it

Oooh Oooh I finally got a glimpse of the xA in Alexandria VA and it looks delicious. It is bigger then I thought but still a fun looking car. I am going to go for a test drive soon and will be figuring out if I can make this my second car to replace my Mitsubishi Galant

AutoWeek had a review of Scions recently at http://www.autoweek.com/cat_co...18469.Interesting that both the manual and automatic trasnsmission versions of the xA both have EPA ratings of 32 city/38 highway. I usually expect the manual to get better mileage than the auto.

Forbes review of Scion xA at http://www.forbes.com/execpick....htmlSome interesting quotes:"Toyota tried to lower this demographic by launching the Echo, then the Matrix, but with little success. "..."All that said, we're still confused about who Toyota thinks the Scion buyer might be. Why? This car is dull to drive. Not only is it gutless, especially with that four-speed gearbox, but it feels a little tippy on its tall sidewall 185/60/R15 tires. Tire squeal comes on easily around even modest bends, and the steering is on the numb side of pleasant. The four-speed transmission, too, is no mechanical joy. It hunts a lot on long, gradual ascents and, meanwhile, the engine is buzzy. You'd better crank the 50 Cent if you want to drown out the drone. "

No offense to anyone, but I'm feeling great that I've finally found some other folks that don't like the xB. Everyone I've spoken to about the car thinks its really nice and cool looking. I know its a matter of opinion and tastes, but I was getting the feeling I was missing something! The xA is pretty sweet though.I read a while back somewhere that more and more of the car manufacturers are designing "off the wall"/ugly cars that appeal to niche markets.

the Xa and Xb are off the echo platform, the echo's engine and trans run these cars. AND the echo has the LEAST problems in the toyota line up.

That's because you can't beat on an Echo, they are just way too slow to do anything fun with. I doubt that any enthusiasts drive them either because they are too slow and ugly. I think they are too small as well.
