I'm trying to "clean up" my computer a bit and currently trying to delete the Kazaa program. And yes nick, It's a mess! I was trying to follow these directions.... http://www.colby.edu/info.tech....html One problem, when I try to do step one by using the ADD/REMOVE programs option on the control panel, I get this message: ERROR LOADINGC:WindowsSystem 32cd_slint.dllThe specified module could not be found And it won't let me uninstall the program...I'm sure there is a computer guru here and could help. It would be greatly appreciated!

Quote, originally posted by drunkenvibe »what exactly is spyware?Spyware is Internet jargon for Advertising Supported software (Adware). It is a way for shareware authors to make money from a product, other than by selling it to the users. There are several large media companies that offer them to place banner ads in their products in exchange for a portion of the revenue from banner sales. This way, you don't have to pay for the software and the developers are still getting paid. If you find the banners annoying, there is usually an option to remove them, by paying the regular licensing fee.Quote, originally posted by drunkenvibe »why is it hard to get rid of kazaa? (no experience w/it)Kazaa is adware that delivers advertising and third party downloads which the user consents to in order to remain free. As the user knowingly and willingly installs Kazaa and its third party software, it overrides the majority of online security defenses such as firewalls. Kazaa allows file sharing between its user network, which means users could be susceptible to accidently sharing personal documents stored on their hard drives or even downloading spyware.

With the advice from Nick I reformatted my computer. Everything seems to be running great now... Just now finish putting all my programs and files back on my computer. Have a couple of questions....1. Is there some way to change the screen resolution for AOL, all the icons, boxes, etc. seem to be much bigger?2. I had McAfee on my computer before it doesn’t look to be on here now, do you normally have to reload this or should it come with my windows package?

I went to this website http://www.majorgeeks.com and they offer a bunch of programs that you can download from speeding up DSL to removing unwanted Kazza files. Some downloads you pay for but tons are free.

Look for the Settings tab - there you will be able to change your screen resolution.Quote »2. If it didn't install when you reformatted/reinstalled, I would check your Dell CD's for an Application CD which may contain the installation for McAfee - otherwise you may need to find another way to download it or go with another brand altogether.

I really wanted to avoid the reformatting process, damn Windows!Yeah, thanks for the tips but it didn't fully delete all of the files. There must have been some that I looked over or couldn't find. I really didn't want to reformat the computer either but I thought it was better to get a fresh start. Thanks again!

Ok...I ran Kazaabgone and had downloaded that lspfix file. I just checked my internet and as evidenced by my post here, it didn't screw with anything on the internet side....should I run the lsp fix file anyways or just shake my head and grin and bear it?
