Well, I'm very new to the Vibe. Just picked her up last week. Anyway, I hated the sound from the stock speakers and decided to change them. I chose high end Kicker units front and back. Anyway, I have the Nav unit with the 6-speakers. I replaced all 6 with the new units. After each speaker was copnnected, I turned on the radio briefly just to make sure all worked.. After hooking up the last doo, (front passenger) no sound was produced. I checked the underhood amp fuse but all was fine. The radio will turn on but no sound. First off, where the heck is the amp in the Nav system? Under the passenger seat is the CD changer. Second, what the heck happened? I just spent 6 hours installing the speakers complete with Dynamat Extreme on all doors and now the radio's dead? Can it be the amp??ANy help??? Getting nervous I broke something...
OK. Seems to be a lot of bad information out there about the DVD NAV radio.First off, it has 6 speakers, not 4.The cd changer is under the passenger's seat, not the amp.The amp is not under the driver's seat, it's the AC power inverter. There seems to be an amp as there is a 30 amp fuse labled "AMP" in the fuse box under the hood. So, where is it, and why is there no sound???
Sorry I'm not much of a stereo man, but there is no external amp with the Nav system. Other then that not much I can offer. Although if it worked with the two new rear and two new left speakers, could there be a problem with one of the right speakers? Or a wire that crossed? Wish I could offer more. Good luck.
I have the nav system in my Vibe, and have been waiting for someone to post their experience with a speaker upgrade. I'm sorry you're having troubles, but am greatly looking forward to your comments when you have the upgrade done. First, the nav system DOES have 6 speakers as you point out. But there is NO external amp. On cars with the Moon 'n' Tunes package, the head unit contains the CD changer, and the amp is under the passenger seat, where the changer is on your car and mine.Do you get any sounds from the nav system part of the unit, like the beeps that sound when you press the navigation buttons? How about the CD player? If you disconnect the last speaker you hooked up, do the others play again?Just tossing out some suggestions. Please keep us informed!!

Well, I did get sound out of four of the five speakers. However, once I hooked up the last two speakers on the front passenger's side (tweeter and woofer component system) the radio would not produce sound. I reversed what I did, even hooked up the old speakers again, but no go. Not even the "beeps" work from the Nav system. It's like all sound has stopped. What really confuses me is the "AMP" fuse in the engine fuse box. It's a 30 amp fuse, but what does it supple? Is it possible the radio has a built in amp? I pulled the "CIG" fuse under the dash, and the radio would not turn on. So it seems this fuse controls the radio. Is it possible there is an electronic kill function that switches the sound off if the radio senses overload or clipping? If so, wouldn't disconnecting the power reset it?I'm really stumped. I pulled the radio out all together. Is there any way to test it? I'm afraid to go to the dealeras replacing the speakers will probably void me getting any help from the dealer. They are quick to say "sorry, you broke it. Warranty does not apply since you removed an OEM part".What about Delphi? Do you think they can help???Will keep updating as I learn more...
I'm not great with audio equipment, but it sounds like you might just wanna try reversing the wires on those last two. I do think the amp (wherever it hides) has it's own built-in breaker, in addition to the fuse in the engine. Thus, you could be overloading the amp and blowing the breaker, which resets when you disconnect the overload.Reach out for Nova. He has a service manual. Maybe it tells in there where the amp with a nav system installed. My guess is it is prolly behind the glove box somewhere.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
That doesn't make sense. Doesn't the nav system automatically get you a 6 speaker system? If so, and the HU can power 6 speakers sufficiently on it's own, there wouldn't be any need for an amp in those w/o a nav, no?

Perhaps the internal amp of the Nav system has enough power. I called Delphi to ask the what the power rating is, but they won't tell. There is nothing to suggest that the amplifier in a non-nav head unit is comparable to the one that the nav system uses. I think that the head unit has "sufficient" power (I may be proved wrong) but that the speakers themselves are low-end units, don't require all that much power, and consequently don't sound all that great. When I get around to upgrading my speakers, my gamble will be that the nav unit does have enough power to sufficiently (your word) power six DECENT speakers without needing external amplification.

OK so the saga continues. I received a DVD NAV unit, but it doesn't work either. It powers up, shows the radio stations and all, but no sound from the speakers. Also, the display is "buzzy" as if it's picking up signal noise. There's a slight herrignbone effect. Now, I am getting desperate. I started tracing the wiring and can find no amp. Why is there still no sound? If there is no amp, why ould the radio produce no sound???I wish somebody had a wiring diagram...any help????
rats! i was hoping to see some more info on what happened or what the solution was. this weekend, i took the vibe to get a flat tire repaired. then when i got it back, i noticed teh sound didn't work. the power is on the radio, amp is powered, fuses are ok, but no sound. anyone have any suggestions on what it could be? it worked, and then all of a sudden, it didn't!
A tire was repaired and now your sound is out? Bizarre.Did you check both fuse blocks? There's an amp fuse under the hood...As mutch of a pain as it sounds, I'd recommend checking every fuse. I had a problem where my sound went out, turned out it was some random fuse that I never would have suspected was connected to the system...If it's definitely not a fuse, I'm not sure what it could be...how a tire change could've messed up your stereo is way beyond me...Who changed it, dealer? I'd say take it back...demand they fix it.

hmm.... i checked the fuse to the amp itself and the 2 on the amp. didn't think about the amp fuse in the engine bay. would the power to the radio still come on tho?
Yeah, pretty sure the radio would still hve power.I remember when I somehow blew my wiper fuse, I switched it with the amp one in the engine, I remember I had no sound, but the clock still worked.Didn't realize there was a fuse ON the amp! Good to know!

well i tried the fuse marked amp, but that wasn't it. i'll check the other couple under the steering column tomorrow night.... it's such a pain crawling under there!
