About 750,000 cars in the United States and about 55,000 in Canada are involved. All were made between Jan. 1, 1996, and Oct. 31, 1997, GM said Monday. The models are the 1996 Buick Regal, 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, 1997-98 Oldsmobile Cutlass, Chevrolet Lumina, Monte Carlo, Malibu and 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue cars. Also, some 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, and 1997-98 Buick Regal cars are being recalled. Drivers have experienced intermittent losses of power steering when making left turns, especially at low speeds, GM said. The drivers experienced higher resistance when turning left, followed by unintended power assist to the right that could pull the car in that direction, the company said. Eight injuries have been reported that may be related to the defect, the automaker said. No deaths were reported. General Motors will begin instructing car owners in February to bring the affected vehicles to dealers for repairs.

Sounds exactly like the recall I had on my 1997 Grand Prix almost exactly one year ago.

ya thats been out for a while,replace lower pinion bearing on the rack fun job,,,or it gets a new rack,,,

You say it's a "fun job." Do you do this?Anyway, it seems they replaced mine or changed everything or whatever (this forgetful thinking happens as you get older). I never had a problem with the steering, as some have, and quite frankly never noticed the steering to be any different after the dealer did the work.I also hope I don't get called in again for this, wasting even more time.

They might send you a recall notice by nature of your car's VIN being in the pool of afflicted vehicles...Not sure though, never had a vehicle that was recalled.

I did. My 2000 Mustang had a recall for the parking brake handle. Apparently, if you pulled like an ape on the handle, it would go all the way up past the last click and disengage the parking brake. It only applied to manual transmission cars so I guess that some dummy out there pulled on the handle too hard, did't leave the car in gear like you're supposed to and the car drifted away. I think they just installed a stopper of some kind so that the handle couldn't be pulled all the way up. All I know is that the person who did the work got dirty boot prints all over the inside of my door panel (probably from leaning into the car with their feet in the air), the trim where the dash and the console met never lined up right again (I'm pretty sure they broke a clip taking it apart), and the brake handle jiggled around all loose and made a rattling noise sometimes while I drove. They "fixed" a problem for me that never existed and caused me three more. Then, when I got the car back, they told me the keys were in it. I got in the car and couldn't find them. I went back and got the service manager. She insisted that they were in the car so I told her to come with me and find them then. After looking through the car, she realized they weren't there. After another 15 minutes of searching, they turned up in the used car sales manager's cubicle. I spotted them, they had my Mustang keychain on them. Then she tried to tell me that they weren't mine, but I insisted that they were. I went with her back to my car and she started the car with the keys. She apologized but I wasn't sticking around to hear it, I just wanted to get the heck out of there before an anvil dropped out of the sky on my head or something.Beware recall work and bumbling idiots at dealerships!
