2200 miles and just bought 4qts of mobil 1 5w30

Hiya-- I had to stop by the autozone yesterday to buy some side light bulbs and didn't want to charge on my credit card only $2.50 so I picked up the oil as well. When would YOU change it and is it too soon to fill er' up with synthetic? By the way the car, 1zz is 10 weeks old. Thanks!! Oh, the light bulbs were for my 240sx, not the brand new car....

Some people would change their oil before the first normally scheduled oil change period to get rid of any stuff kicked loose from break in, others would just go with the normal schedule.Some would also say that it is never too early to switch to synthetic. I think there are even some who would change to put in synthetic as soon as they got the car home from the dealer.I think I did my first oil change at about 3K. I still haven't switched to synthetic.

Yeah, I use Mobil 1. I think after 2000 miles you have enough metal shavings in your oil filter to switch over to synthetic. I also change my oil ever 5,000-6,000 miles now. Good luck

I changed to full synthetic(Havoline) at 1800 miles. Cant say I notice any difference except piece of mind knowing the car has some slippery stuff in there.

I did what a lot of people have done, I did my first oil change at around 2000 miles. Thought an earlier first change would help clean out the engine... Figured it couldn't hurt...I stayed on a 3000 mile schedule through the summer but I was doing a lot of highway driving so I probably didn't need to change so often. I'm switching to a 5000 schedule now and will probably stick to it.Dave

I switched to Mobil 1 at 450 miles. Another thing to think about when buying a new car is the build date. My Vibe had the original oil in it for almost a year from the time it was built to the time I bought it. That and all the test drives it had to go through it needed new oil.
