winter oil

Post by showpokey »

Just got my new 04 vibe and was wondering with the car being made in Cali is the oil up to being run through the engine at -27? Noticed this morning it seems to struggle on the first couple of cranks. Also the rear window defrosters seem to take the scenic route to defrosting pretty paterns that slowly melt away.

There is a TSB in the works that will upgrade our batteries to a more powerful one. Mine seems to work as fast as any other I've had.

The 5w30 oil recommended for the engine should be ok for winter., although if it was -27 I would be a bit sluggish too. Some people use block heaters in winters like that, I don't need one where I live, where if it got down to -27 ( °C or °F ) the entire region would totally freak out,When I use my rear defroster, it starts making horizontal melted lines where the heater wires are, which then slowly grow wider until the whole window is thawed.Satellite 2 tone base, same as me and ragingfish

Speaking of cold, this shot was taken this morning in Northern Ontario.(I suppose this looks like Spring to TRDVibe...) (let me know if you can't read the thermometer.)

I recall reading that some people switch to 0W-30 during the winter, but I don't know anything about that. Personally, I won't use any oil other than that which is speciifcally called for: 5W-30
