Rear lift gate rattle

Post by lopers »

Anyone experiencing a rattle from the rear lift gate when driving over uneven pavement? I thought it was the license plate, so I tightened the two screws at the top of the plate, but the noise still exists. Any suggestions out there?

good idea. There is alot of stuff stored in there from the factory. I still have all the tie down stuff in there. Anyway, this is off topic, but does anyone else think the odometer trip button on the dash is flimsy?

I know this thread is WICKED old, but I thought I'd resurrect it because I recently had a problem where I'd slam the lift gate and hear vibrating metal, or if I had the bass in the cabin pumped high, I'd here a metal rattle every downbeat. Anyway, turned out it was coming from the muffler area...service guys couldn't find any problem, and it disappeared on it's own, but if you hear a similar noise, might wanna take a peek underneath, see if anything's loose.

hi raging...Had a similar problem with a license plate border I put on the back. It didn't sit flush against the plate and every time I'd go over a bump, no matter how slight, it would rattle. I ended up using some rubber bumpers then ties the plate border to the plate itself with wire. It worked and the metal wire matched my plate border.I also notice what seems to be air excaping from the back when I open or close a door. Sounds like it's coming from the hatch area but isn't bad. Almost sounds like a door isn't completely closed, it opens slightly when negative or positive pressure is applied but resets once it's done. I figure it's not an issue though, just something I notice.Dave

If the noise went away by itself, maybe it was a rock caught underneath, as in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6131The vents that let air out when you shut a door or the hatch are mounted in the rear corners of the car. They are plastic, with a sort of rubberized set of flaps, there would be no metallic rattle from them. here's a pic of the vent, from the inside http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...t.jpg

My guess is that the noise is coming from the plastic tray covering the spare tire. Also check the locking screws for the compartment to get to that tray. If not locked down, the cover will bounce up and down.

Hey I had the exact same rattle as DavidPIL, luckily my wife figured it out and then put little rubber bumpstops behind the bottom of the license plate.
