Hi,Just got my new Vibe AWD and have a question about the green light bulb (?) warning/info light in the tachometer. It is right underneath the x100 RPM.Does anyone know what it is supposed to indicate? I haven't been able to locate it in my manual (other than page 3-26 where it appears in the pic). Thanks!Kim(If I'm doing this right, I have hopefully attached a pic)
oh ya, welcome to genvibe! hope you stay long and learn lots! this site is great for any info or advice. don't be afraid to put your own advice or input on various topics too.
I guess it's to let you know that you're in "automatic headlight" mode instead of just "daytime running light" mode. Mine goes into auto headlight mode ona clear sunny day unless the sun is shining directly on the sensor in the dash. I don't even notice the green light anymore, and don't mind driving in the day withg the headlights on.I found another reference to the indicator light in the 2004 owners manual, on page 3-13, it says:"When it is dark enough outside, your automaticheadlamp system will turn on your low-beam headlampsat the normal brightness along with other lamps suchas the taillamps, sidemarker, parking lamps andinstrument panel lights. The parking brake must bereleased for the automatic headlamp system to work. This is indicated by the headlamp symbol on yourinstrument panel cluster."So, what color and options did you get on that AWD?
Thanks to all for the quick feedback. I missed that reference on page 3-13.My AWD is Shadow with Graphite interior.Along with the Moon & Tunes package & Power Group Package.A couple of weeks ago I slid on some snow with my 2001 Tracker (in 4wd mode), did a VERY slow 180 and tipped (!) onto the driver's side. Less than $2500 damage - but enough to make me want a safer car.I'm looking forward to spending the rest of the winter in my new Vibe AWD!Again, thanks for the responses!
The manual doesn't really explain the light well, at least not by the standards of incredibly tedious documentation that we have to crank out at work. At some point I'd like to get a Matrix owners manual to see how Toyota describes the same stuff, but not enough to actually buy one. I did a 270 in a minivan once, just absolutely nothing I could do once the back end started to come around other than watch and wait to see what would happen, but it kept it's feet and I didn't hit anything (at least nothing important) Glad (hope) you weren't hurt in the Tracker tipping.
In my 04' that only comes on if I have the fog lights on. If I turn off the foglights and leave the head lights on, it goes out. I also looked it up in the manual, but it was not explained very well. IIRC, the position of the headlight/foglight/driving light switch was not explained very well either. Took me awhile to figure out the foglight/little green light connection!

When the headlights are on, move a little closer towards the steer column and turn the ring to turn on the fogs.Hope this helps BTW, the 2004 instrument looks quite nice.

I believe what he means is that his indicator is on to let you know the fogs are activated, and that indicator will only appear with the headlights on, so you know the fogs are on as well.Similar to my dad's 98 GA where there is a little red light to tell you fog lights are engaged.Fogs still can't be run independently of the headlamps without modifications.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
