Trading in.

Post by Reynoma »

I've seen a couple of posts from people to either (a) have traded in their Vibe or (b) wish to trade in their Vibe. Some for a different car and some for a 2004 model.I guess I'm very happy with my #8,929 manufactured in March 2002. I wouldn't get rid of it just to get a new "look" or "feature". I hope to keep my car for many, many years. (My outlook is probably tainted by the fact that I have the GT and regularly experiece "lift"). I don't want the new lower molding on my two-tone Abyss (keep the "retro" look).Don't get me wrong....the new dash lights are nicer, and the new fusion orange is really cool. I even like monotone better than two-tone. I'm just very happy with what I have.Anybody agree with me?

a new one is nice, but I bought this car planning/hoping it would last many years, no reason yet for me to trade it in on anything else.

That was 1-1/2 years ago. Perhaps if there is a AWD Vibe with a 2.5 turbo, I would consider a trade-in.

However, coming from a base/auto Vibe owner, I would be more likely to consider buying a new Vibe (maybe keep the '03 too ) with an upcoming '05 or '06 model year (manual, GT next time). As Reynoma, my Vibe was one of the first ones built back in April '02 - there are a few more rattles and little quirks around but that is to be expected for the first run but that never swayed me from loving it and continuing to do so.

Hi Reynoma...Yeah, I'm happy and becoming more happy every week or so. The changes I've made in the past month have really made my VibeGT more like the car I expected... well, even more so since all I had to go by was my old truck and test drives. Since changing the Tranny oil and adding the ground wires and lubing the shifter and adding the drop-in filter... I think I'm gonna keep this one for a while. The funny thing is that I think my experience with my Vibe and readiing things here I think I'm less apt to buy another Pontiac but more apt to buy a Toyota. BTW, my VibeGT was made in April '03 and purchased in June '03 so it didn't sit around too long.Dave

But, I do love my car and will probably not trade it in anytime soon. Besides, my payments are fine and the mileage is great. it's not my tundra, but that's ok. i'm glad i don't have to spend all the money to lease/operate it as i did.

I love my Vibe. What else can I say ...Would I trade it in? Possibly though ...If I could've afforded a WRX Wagon, I would've gotten that mb. And that new Mazda3 looks oh so enticing, and it has a sport shift... yippie!Ah well, what's the fun in having /exactly/ what you want? That's what mods are for

Mine was built 06/02 and I bought it on 08-02 so It was almost fresh from the factory. There are always bigger, better, faster no matter if it is a car or computer. It makes no sence to trade in a new car and loose thousands of $ in depreation. I have spent a small fortune (2500+) modifying my car to make me happy with how it drives and looks. I plan to drive it for at least 5yrs +. I had my Pathfinder for 8 yrs and traded it for the Vibe. Never regretted it!

I love the Vibe, but I do miss my Probe...I should've waited another month so I didn't have to trade it in.. Argh..Aside from that..i'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't have gone for the Monotone..even though Pickin's were slim in Jersey for the GT..soo..The '04 features don't blow my skirt up enough, especially after all the hacking into the electrical system i've done..

Yeah, I love the Vibe. I don't think I will ever trade it in...I'll probably keep it as long as it lasts even if I buy other cars for fun, I'll still drive the Vibe. The only thing is that I love working on cars, and there are barely any parts made for the Vibe...I wish someone would manufacture a descent looking body kit, or perhaps a turbo to set mine apart from the crowd.

January 02, as drunkenvibe stated, was really the first month of production for the Vibe. He's one of the rare ones! GM is doing some pretty cool things with all these new vehicles, I hope they keep it up.

I actually like the look of the 03 dash lights. I think they changed it because the dials are so hard to see when the that sensor on top of the dash mistakenly dims them during the day. Not a problem in a 04. It's nice to see things like this and the lower sills are being addressed. Like mine lots and plan on keeping it a while. The way I use it, it's great for me. The roof rack and very useful interior setup combined with my GTs fun to drive factor is hard to beat. I looked at a WRX but it wont hold close to what actually fits inside this car. The Vibe GT is a bit loud and coarse overall (not compared to protege 5s etc.) but fits it's sporting character nicely.

I do like the vibe. Name one other car (besides the matrix) that can get 35 mpg, go 130 mph, seat 5 people and 5 golf bags comfortably!HOWEVER, I wish there were more upgrades and accessories available for the vibe. e.g. affordable bodykit and a turbo that doesn't require new internals. My vibe is starting to rattle a little also. Finally, too many freakin soccer moms drive vibes . I sometimes question my own manhood. Hey, so I'm insecure, deal with it.
Sold the vibe.Sorry, GM. I bought an Acura.

Yeah, too many soccer moms! I thin I've helped sell 3 Vibes to people who have just walked by my Vibe... all older than I, and I'm 36. I bought the Vibe for it's versatility. Might have gone with a Saturn Vue if I had $6000 more to spend though. I needed to maintain the small item hauling space I had with my Truck and add additional seating for work related trips. The rattles? well, there is too much plastic in the back. I knew that when I bought it so some odd pops were expected. An occasional buzz up front, for me, mostly seems to come from a sympathetic vibration on the keyring more than anything inside the dash. Yeah, I started to hear the buzzing everyone else mentioned in accelerating and found out mine was from the keys.I like the fact that it seems minor alterations in the engine compartment are easily done, including basic maintenance like Oil & Filter changes. My old truck was very easy to change the oil as well but I wouldn't have wanted to have done much else to it because the engine compartment just didn't seem to be as well organized. I do plan on keeping my Vibe for as long as it remains fun to drive. Oddly enough, I had my last truck for 4 years before it started to be more fun to drive. Maybe since this one started out fun (ok, not so fun till I mastered the clutch and did some minor alterations) it will lose it's "funness" faster than I hope. I really doubt I'll find something like this but who knows, a lot of new models coming out so I might change my mind.Dave

The only reason why I traded mine is was due to $0 loss for a new vehicle. The Vibe was ok, but mine rattled like you couldn't believe and the dealer and GM tried many times to fix the problems, but never got it right. The actually caused more issue on occasion. The seating position was not ideal and I wanted an engine that could be modified. Plus the transmission was not as smooth as I expected from Toyota. I think in general though the cars are really great, but mine was a "bad day of the week" build from sometime in March of '02. So there are some of us that will trade ours in, but you have to buy what fits your life.

i have come to the conclusion and revelation that i will NEVER be happy with any car or vehicle i own. there will always be a better, faster, cooler, etc car than what i have now. so, having said that, i would also like to not have a car payment one day, be content with what i've got and deal with it! i will continue to mod my vibe as i see fit and the longer it's out on the market, the more parts will become available. i want to pay off my current bills and quit accrueing new ones! new years resolution!
