How is the vibe for tall drivers? Seat Comfort?

Post by progvmac »

Apparently Pontiac won me over. Today I went to a dealership and sat in a Toyota '03 Corolla S, a Pontiac Aztek, a Pontiac Vibe & the Matrix.I like the Vibe and Matrix equally (makes sense, eh?) but will go with the vibe for price reasons, if I choose one of those two.I am 6'2" and I have kind of funny knees. In most cars, due to my height, my knees bend as such that my knee is higher than my thigh (hopefully this makes sense). I find this very uncomfortable...I did sit in the Vibe, and it seemed a little cramped in the knee department, while the Aztek was much more roomy. However, I like the practicality/styling of the Vibe better. So, all of you tall Vibe drivers out there? How is the position of your knees? Do you notice discomfort?I frequently take trips 200+ miles, so I'll also about seat comfort? How is it? I have a '93 Chevy Lumina and the seats are god-awful. Prior to that I had an '89 Buick Century that had plush, luxurious seats. So, comfort wise, how is a long trip in this guy?

If I remember correctly, the seat height can be adjusted for the driver's seat. Look for a crank wheel on the side.I'm 6'1", and have plenty of headroom, kneeroom, and comfort in the seat. I doubt another inch would make any difference.KSNeptune

Do you notice discomfort?I'm 6'4", and bought a base Vibe 5 spd because it was the best gas mileage I could fit in. (~35 mpg avg so far) I've got plenty of room, even in the back seats. My legs rub the bottom of the steering wheel if I keep my knees together, but I have that problem in anything except the larger land yachts. I think the seats in the Vibe are very comfortable. Ergonomics are a big part of being satisfied with your car, and I'm really happy with the Vibe. Everybody's got different preferences, so make sure you take a long test drive in anything you're thinking about buying.

I'm 6'1 and I know the feeling. I don't fit into most coupe's....and the Vibe....has taken care of all problems. It sits higher and leg room to fly with. I haven't regretted purchasing this car for one second.

I am 6'4", and finding a car that I can fit in is hard to find, especially when there is a sunroof. The Vibe is made for tall people, in my driving position there is still 3-4" left between my head and roof, and a adult can sit in the back without having there knees in the front seat.

I'm 6'1" and I've been driving my new Vibe since late December.I would rate the headroom as great -- and I also have a moonroof. The seats are very comfortable, much more so than in my '89 Corolla. (My longest trips so far in the Vibe have been 100 miles.)Knee room for me is adequate. I know that older cars (with smaller consoles) gave me much more knee room but I don't mind this at all.

quote:Are you hitting your right knee against th console aslo sometimes? Yes, my knee gets jostled between the console and my key remote. Not a big deal though. The big inconvenience was when I had my '91 VW Golf with an aftermarket cruise control. My knee kept knocking the control stick loose. After that I swore I would only get a factory cruise control.

I am 6'5" and my son is 6'7". I can sit in the driver's seat and he can sit behind me. Mind you I have to put the seat up a bit to make that happen, but I can drive quite comfortably with the seat up a bit. My usual position is with the seat fully back and slightly reclined so I don't hit my head on the ceiling. That was one of my primary reasons for bying the Vibe. At one time I could hardly get into an Asian-designed vehicle without having to use the Jaws of Life, but now it is quite the opposite. I fit into my Vibe better than I did my 91 Caprice Classic. The Vibe is a very well thought-out car.

A search for "knee" found this thread....so I'll post here.Above, somebody said something about their knee hitting the center console. I'm having that problem. On a long drive, with my right knee sitting against the console, it starts to get annoying. I don't know if a particular piece of trim is poking me in just the right place. Does anybody else have this problem. If so, did you do something about it? I've been toying with the idea of putting a little padding there.

While I'm not a tall person (only 5'5"), I do log 210 km (130 mi) per day in my car. This car is really comfortable. We have a GMC half ton at work, and a long trip in that beast makes my back so sore... the most comfortable position is "hanging" off the steering wheel.I also had a Cavalier as a courtesy when my Vibe was in the shop, and that car was not good! Seats are really uncomfortable, cupholders unusable, controls poorly laid out, not to mention that ugly floral fabric & foam pattern on the back seats.I'll keep my Vibe, thanks.

Hi,I'm 6'6" and have just bought a Vibe for my wife. We drove it to San Diego from San Jose (almost 500 mi.). My knees didn't bother me at all. But in fairness, my knees are higher than my hips in the Vibe. The seats are very comfortable. In fact they're more comfortable than my '99 Pontiac Grand Prix seats. Hope this helps.

i am 6'3" and with the seat adjusted all the way down my knees do angle up quite a ways but it is flush with the angle of the seat so it is still very comfortable.

At 6'2" I'm a shortie compared to Inder and others, but I've got long legs. Yet, the Vibe is still very comfortable

MY brother is 6'5 and he's driven my Vibe. The seat has a crank on the left side to adjust seat height, and the steering wheel is adjustable. Test drive one after adjusting the seat/steering wheel to make sure it'll fit you just right though, because it's important (As I'm sure you know) to make sure the car fits you correctly before you drive. Being taller, you may want to make sure that all of the controls are in the right spot for you to be able to reach them with relative ease as well.

Side note: And about the seating comfort, I made 2 or 3 trips from Florida to Canada in the Vibe. I found it pretty comfy.
