Is water beading a reliable indicator?

Post by tots »

My Vibe is just a 2 months old and I've put 2 coats for carnuba wax on it (Meguires Gold). I've found that after just a few washes, when I rinse the car after washing it the water doesn't bead much at all. I use Armor All car wash which claims not to strip wax.So is the fact that I'm not seeing the water bead up an indicator that there is little / no wax left on the surface? If so, why would 2 coats go so quickly?

I'm no expert, and don't wash my car a lot, Satellite really hides the dirt well, and I take advantage of that. I always thought beading was an indicator of wax, but maybe that's just hype from auto wax commercials. Still, maybe it would be worth trying a different wash, seems like your wax should be able to hold up better than that. Meguiars is supposed to be a good wax. Mine needs a wax now, but it's too cold.
