Windshield Wiper Defect?

Hi - I was just wondering if anyone has had a problem with the driver's side windshield wiper. A piece of metal came out of mine from somewhere, and it scratched the windshield in a long arc from bottom to top. I took it to the dealer and they covering the wiper and windshield replacement under the warranty. I'm wondering if this is a known defect. Any idea? Thanks.

Since no one has said anything about it before, most likely not a widespread issue.Could have been vandalism too.When I had my sunfire, someone messed with the blade while I was working, when I came out and went o use them, the blade flew off and the arm scratched the windshield.
